British Territorial Army on Solent
Solent is an old colony world, tucked away from the more troubled hotspots of the human inhabited galaxy, but still maintains a military to deal with local problems and in case of invasion. More than half the planet surface is uninterrupted ocean with the major landmass being a single super-continent with storm-battered coasts, mountain ranges, vast expanses of jungle and towards the interior massive deserts. There is a much greater proportion of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than on Earth, the air is breathable for short periods of time but for any serious activity outdoors requires either a contained supply of breathable air or breathing masks to scrub the air for human use. Solent was settled initially by colonists primarily of British origin.
The British colonists have a part-time military, the long standing Territorial Army, which over the years has become highly important as a professionally trained militia for protecting Britain’s colonies, particularly those like Solent that are distant or of low strategic value. The TA operates in mechanized platoons, with heavy weaponry support in the form of the Cavalier light tank. The infantry are well equipped, with an eye towards locally producible equipment to cut down on expense. Standard equipment includes sealed suits of combined flexible and rigid protection, are armed with a modular ACR that is typically equipped with a 30mm grenade launcher and operate in eight man squads transported by the Chariot wheeled APC.
