Great looking stuff! I epsecially like the Russians in NBC gear. Very "cold war". I can't wait to get the book.

You're going to see a mix of scenarios, guys. There's some urban fighting, some fighting in the countryside, fighting in different regions. Some scenarios will focus on infantry, some on vehicles, some a combo.
There should be something for everyone.
Did I mention there will be 20 scenarios in the book?

Hey guys, since I'm the lead author on the Cold War Gone Hot book, let me offer a glimpse into what we're working on:
The book will have three main divisions:
1) The Cold War We Thought...this is a collection of essays, scenarios and stats for what we thought was going to happen. E.g., Fulda Gap, Soviet breakthroughs, etc.
2) The Cold War That Was...this is the same, only for what we know now. The declassification of documents on both side showed that the Soviet Union was a lot tougher on paper than in reality. Think, The Bear Went Over the Mountain applied to all theaters.
3) The Cold War of Hollywood. We all have our favorite movies and books...we're taking it one step further and writing scenarios in that vein.
The book will also have scenarios for all budgets. There will indeed be a few Piers "armor parks" scenarios, but there will be special ops, infantry slugfests and whatever other coolness we choose to throw in the book.

Slightly off-topic but did both sides actually prepare for urban combat or had urban combat doctrines back then? I'm curious to know, because a lot of what I read about the cold war was in preparation for tank battles in open fields and forests.
Also, is there going to be one background story or fluff that will tie all these scenarios together?

First off as always great stuff Big P..
TJX there where still a few WW2 and Korean war vets still serving during the cold war, Most would shortly be gone . So yes Both sides expected to fight Urban the battlefield was broken up by small and medium BUAs and many would need to be reduced to allow the Soviet Juggernaut to push on . NATO knew this and expected to bleed the WP forces dry and slow them down..also most of the critical LOC where in fairly large cities not to mention the ports.

TJX -
At this time we are not writing an official "storyline" behind the war. Our thought is that we can always do one later as it's own book. Rather we want a real scenario-driven book with different takes on different situations. The main reason is that if you ask 100 different gamers what their version of the Cold War Gone Hot would be, you'll get a 100 different answers. With twenty scenarios set in one of the three broad categories, TO&Es, stats, references, etc., we're sure to find something of interest to all 100

Do you guys mind if I use your pics (Piers) and blurb (Jim)?

I know. That's why I don't re-post them in my blog. What I was saying is that there will be plenty to release online in my blog after this years' Cold War event.
And I am sooo looking forward to see those.

Will CWGH just feature battles set in Europe or will other actual "proxy" Cold War scenarios that took place outside of Europe be included ?

So far as I have seen there will be scenerios that aren't in Europa. Can't tell you more of course, or I will be shot by certain members of this community.
