Tears of the Sun

And then if you go back a bit, you could look at Dogs of War, The Wild Geese . . . I'm sure folks can give you more suggestions.

I can't find "At Thy Call" anywhere online either - certainly not via Netflix or Amazon, not at Belle and Blade, not at any of the few SA book/video dealers I've bookmarked. Might even be to obscure for other methods to be fruitful.

there are a few old B&W movies about the legion in Nth Africa...Beau Geste being the one that comes to mind...but its nothing recent...

i know its not totally about African wars but Lord of War with Nicholas Cage might give u some inspiration...also Blood Diamond might be worth a watch as well....

these wiki pages help as well...

That would be "The Mercenaries" or "Dark of the Sun" depending on where you are at since the first one is the UK movie release name and the second is the US release.

Excellent movie, especially compared to that crappy "Tears of the Sun"

Raid on Entebbe (1977) is the one where the Israelis liberate hostages in Uganda...

Not that it is a movie but I have the following recommendations

- Memories of Rhodesia have a whole series of "propoganda films" concrening the chimurga... yes I will freely admit I am pro-Rhodie. The Films have raw footage of the external and internal operations. Further the have specific films on the RLI, RAR, SAS, and Selous Scouts (sheep dipped as a combat tracking unit).

- There was on the net a bunch of raw footage of the french forces in Cote d' Ivorie, and some on Kolwezi.

- for the Algerian War of Independence there is the 5 part documentry made in the 80s that is excellent ... it features interviews with the Bigeard, Massau. St. Helier, and the lists go on... fantastic if you are reading Trinquier's Modern Warfare Book.

- The 1966 italian classic "Battle of Algiers" that actually stars the real FLN head of operations in Algiers during the time frame depicted.

- The Lost Command with Anthony Quinn. an American-French film about based on the book " the Centurions by Jean Larteguy. Has the closing of the Indochine War with the beginning of the Algerian war.

- I recommend checking on http://www.30degreessouth.co.za/ the are a publishing firm from south africa. I bought two large volumes, beautifully made, on the RAR and RLI. It looks like they are publishing a series on Africa at war to include the South African, French and Rhodesian experiences.
