Hi,
I hope this hasn't been asked to death, but I have a couple of questions from setting up for Scenario 5 (The Place of the King) from the Enduring Freedom sourcebook:
1.) The US victory conditions give 5pts if all enemy crew-served weapons are destroyed by air strikes. It also gives 5pts if all enemy crew-served weapons are destroyed by the on-board infantry. If some weapons are taken out by air strikes and some are taken out with infantry attacks -- they get 5pts. for wiping out all crew-served weapons correct?
2.) Do Hidden Units or Elusive Units that have not been spotted gain any defensive bonus from air strikes? Can they even be targeted by air strikes? The book says the TAC must have the target in sight, but the various air strikes (strafing runs, pylon gun runs, etc.) are really area attacks so it's not clear if the TAC needs to have spotted a unit to affect it with an air strike. However if un-spotted units can be affected by air strikes, do they get any special defensive bonus?
2a.) Does the above apply to mortar/artillery attacks?
3.) Why do on-board mortar teams drop a firepower die for direct lay targets in their LOS? If there's a spotter who can see the target, can they call for fire and negate the penalty?
Thanks in advance Tom

Of course, I will defer to Leigh if I get these wrong, but I'll trake a stab at these...
1. I think the intent was for the US player(s) to get the full 5 points if all the enemy crew-served weapons are KO'ed, regardless of the method of destruction.
2. The TAC must have a target in sight. Then, any other teams in the "beaten zone" suffer regular attacks per the rules. No special defensive bonuses to being hidden in this situation apply - bombs, rockets, and chain-guns don't care whether the guy firing them can see unintended targets. They tend to kill everybody equally.
3. Yes - same prinicipal as #2.
4. Off-board mortars are usually intended to simulate mortar sections or platoons, of a few tubes each. One tube firing on-board won't cause quite as much carnage as 2 or 3 tubes off-board (even with direct lay), thus the die reduction.
I hope this makes sense. I'm sure Leigh will chime in if I've mucked it up......

Your answers make sense -- especially the mortar question. Thanks!
