So we played a game tonight with some Land Rover WMIKs in an Afghanistan based scenario. I have noticed that the stats in the main rule book and the Enduring Freedom book are significantly different. I sort of figured that this was because in Afghanistan the British would eventually up armor their Land Rovers. Here in lies my question. Is a Land Rover WMIK in Afghanistan suppose to be Up-Armored. I ask this because in the EF book it has 2d6 armor on both the front and side compared to the 1d6 armor of a normal soft skin and its main rule book counter part. In game terms this is a huge difference as small arms fire only gets 1/2 firepower against an up-armored soft skin whereas it gets full firepower against a regular soft skin.
Any thoughts?

The main rule book lists the wolf wimik at 1d6 however the supcat jackal is listed at 2 D6 both are called WIMIK but the jackal is a true Armoured vehicle while the landrover is not..So the OEF book portrays the UA version of the landrover WIMIK the main rule book does not...Mikey

Whilst the Jackal has slightly better armour than a WMIK Landie , its not a true armoured vehicle . http://www.eliteukforces.info/uksf-gear/mwmik/Both are extremely vulnerable to any kind of fire .

It is described as a built from the ground up light armoured LRPV By the UKMOD perhaps they should have you on their Payroll to correct their discrepancies.

While I don't disagree that it is definitely not an amored vehicle, it still seems to be up-armored just like a HMMWV.
The question is though... is the regular Land Rover up-amored enough to be classified as an "up-armored soft skin" in game terms.

The up armour kit is minimal . I would say no on the Landie WMIK ... both AFV's really struggle . Also don't forget all the crew are ''exposed '' - all the time . If u can get hold of the SKY doco '' pathfinders'' it shows how extremely vulnerable both AFV's were in Afghanistan . In any chosen firefight both vehicles want to engage any enemy from long range .

The question is though... is the regular Land Rover up-amored enough to be classified as an "up-armored soft skin" in game terms. Hopefully I can explain as I wrote the supplement. The WMIK described in OEF is not considered Up Armoured in the same manner as an M1114 for example. In the OEF supplement, it's additional protection (and why it is rated 2d6 verses the 1d6 of the original) lies in ballistic panels which were added to the WMIK (really the E-WMIK to be precise) soon after it entered the Afghan theatre. This give it some slightly enhanced ballistic protection. It is also classed as Hardened as the WMIK was given additional under-chassis protection against mine or IED blast effects. So in closing, no it's not classed as Up Armoured as per the FOF rules but yes the Afghan upgrade in OEF has additional ballistic protection giving it 2D6 (but not the half FP from small arms benefit that the Up Armoured characteristic provides).
