Hi,

Does it mean that every "NATO" trooper has a double optimum range?

No, only those that have the weapons equipped eith the ACOG rails.

Well, its not as simple as that. Not all NATO small arms are always equipped with enhanced optics. The standard FAMAS for example. Also, even if it would be available to NATO soldiers, they do not always use the optical sights. For example, the standard Dutch assault rifle is the Diemaco C7 with an ELCAN C79 optical sight fitted. However, in the 'Stan, you saw that some people were removing the ELCAN and reverting back to iron sights for some reason.

On the other hand, keeping track of each individual soldier's optical sights is not very practical. I'd suggest looking at what the majority are fitted with and using that. After all, the Optimum Range bonus applies for the whole team, not to individuals.

Well as far as i can tell on the french army (to find info is pretty tricky ), the FAMAS is quasi systematically upgraded with an optique (not ACOG but well, others optics can be as good no?!).
And checking Afghanistan photos showed almost all the time, optics on FAMAS....

So i guess, it is up to the player and the scenario.

One more question: I know that the French Army has actually deployed the first FELIN equipment on the field (don't know which unit to be honest). What would be the "bonus" that such high tech equipment give?

Cheers,
Nobu

Keeping in mind , That their bigger brothers (Vehicle mounted systems like FBCB2/BFT are affected by built up areas and Felin,Land Warrior are still unstable).
Being generous id give the following: Increased situational awareness , remote weapon sight.
Re roll any failed reaction test or give them a plus 1 for opposed reaction test.
give them a plus 1 in addition to any other cover bonus for remote weapon sight (camera).
hope that gives you some ideas.........Mikey

good buddy has the ERC 90 been upgraded to a 105 mm and any idea why they choose to deploy the AMX RC 105 to the stan instead?

Hi,

whoa mohamed:
In french service, no upgrading of the 90mm. Only improvement of the engine and of some optics on the turret.
For deployment in Afghanistan, no real clue for the moment (the ERC90 is deployed in Djibouti, Tchad, Senegal). I'll dig a bit more.

To bounce on the optique subject, i just found that the "regulatory" French optique should be the Schrome J4 and possibly a laser pointer called PIRAT. I have no clue if it is equivalent to the ACOG.
Of course, some ...hem..."flexibility" exists!

Cheers

EDIT: It seems that the AMX10RC was preferred due to better armour (upgraded in 2005)

The pirat may be the french version of the PEQ 2 Laz desig target illuminator or then again maybe ours is a version of the french Pirat......not sure what the schrome thingy is I have seen photos of just about everything you could find on an M4 sopmod on Fmas....Mikey
