Referrrign to the scenario ' a small town in germany' the dragon teams can be hidden and use the ambush rule. so my questions is this. if the dragon team succesfullly initiate an ambush befoe the targets are in optimum range ( as described in the ambush rules does that mean that the target AFVS don't get an attempt to 'spot the puff of smoke 'and try and evade the missile ( as described on P87-88) so do the missiles automatially go in first if the ambush is iniated successfully? cheers

OPT Rng is not a factor both the missile crews and the tanks have advanced optics and everything on the board is in range of both weapons and platforms. next even if the soviets fail or fail to even try a spoting attempt you would still need to take a TQ to see if you had the CLU warmed up and a good missile (see ATGM Availibility page 88). Next even if your ambush is successfull the target of the missile may still make a TQ test to see if it spots the luanch. If it does it may attempt to supress the missile team or take evasive action. ( see reacting to and evading ATGMs page 88). so no the missiles don't get to blast the soviets . first check and see if your ambush gets blown then check your CLU and rounds for integrity Fire targets get to check if they spot the Boom if they spot the hurt stick then they must either try to supress the crew or evade then you take a TQ to see if you lose lock if you did the missile misses if not it hits and you resolve the attack....Mikey

thanks that seems really clear BUT it begs the question why bother to have an ambush I can't see any advantage to doing so?

Mikey, do you remember, where the advanced optics rule is? Is it a special attribute like "stealthy"?
I guess the ambush still works against the infantry, psidebotham.

For one thing if it goes off you get first Lick in . Being first can lead to a knock out or hurting the target enuf to make it change or stop doing what its doing. Being first can set up the target for a second blow from another of your units. I do not understand why people would feel like the statement above , Just becouse your ambush is not 100% guranteed. Do I really have to say it again Nothing on the battlefield Is 100 % guranteed. Live a little try Tactics its just a game Bro......Mikey
