I'm just getting into Force on Force, learning on my own, so there may be a basic bit I have missed.
When infantry defends against fire,
P. 33 A unit's basic Defense is equal to the number of figures in the unit or the number of Firepower dice with which it is being attacked, whichever is less.
When a vehicle is defending,
P.81 Both sides roll the appropriate number of Troop Quality dice and discard any rolls lower than 4.
Does the defending vehicle use all it's defense dice, or drop dice to match the number of attacking dice like basic Defense for infantry? The example has the attacker with more dice, but I'm trying to work out what happens with an AP RPG which has one die vs. a light vehicle listed with three defensive dice.
I've been playing that the vehicle gets all its defensive dice, but want to be sure.
Thanks!

when attacking AFVs you just throw the weapons AT(plus any weapons team bonus if aplicable) or anti tank Dice against the vehicles armour die . For weapons with out a AT rating please see page 86 FOFMRB Non AT Infantry weapons Vs Vehicles . Front , side , rear or deck aspect. No need to drop def die or any thing else just use AT rating Vs vehicle armour Die according to what aspect your atacking.....Mikey

Just need some clarification on Fire Dice when engaging armoured vehicles. The FD to use depends on TQ so this can range from d6 through to D12. So essentially the better trained your troops are the better chance of defeating Armour?
I have only played a few FoF games so far, without vehicles so have no real experience of this during game play, but as I read the rules an elite trooper with a Light AT Weapon AT1 (1d12 FD) weapon will have a good chance of doing damage to a MBT (4d12 Defence), while a trained gunner with a ATGM (4d8 FD) will have less chance?
I know the Light Weapon will do less damage when a penetrating hit is achieved.

I think if you do the math, 4d8 has a better chance of hitting 4d12 than 1d12 does. In the latter case, the one die must beat all four (about 4%).

Add a weapon team bonus significantly increases the chance of getting a penetrating hit.
