Hey guys,

I´ve put my first battle report online: Link

EDIT: It´s now finished, I´ve updated the blog entry with the finalized report!

I´d be very interested in your comments and analysis, especially what you think were the errors made that led to such disaster (apart from bad luck & scenario design)...

I have looked at your game and it seems as if you had fun thats all that counts..
I thought about changes that I would have made none of which you need use , I also tried to justify why i thought the changes were neccesary.
1. Use the whole platoon in the battle
It just opens up more options for you then to let your squads fight in isolation.
2. Provide a ANA/ANP element.
for a long time US troops try to avoid entering population centers . We use ANA/ANP to clear with as little assistance as possible . we want the Afgan people to see its their Army in the lead not us...(whether true or not).
3. your guys should roll for air support no later then 2 turns after TIC...Normaly a SWT or AWT is on a 15-30 minute string.
4. There is normaly some vehicle support IE MRAP or even ANA Pick up trucks that occupy a support by fire position and shoot with their HMGs and what have you. (if one of your units has PID all of your units with LOF/LOS have it ). Unless you have rolled or drawn a FOW card degrading comms.
5. Terrain analysis what advantagious terrain could I have occupied with SBF positions to help me win IE high ground Road intersection bridge etc....
6. We do not always have to go forward ever forward...If resistance is heavy and or the terrian or lack of assets place the outcome in doubt consider pulling back to ground you controll or even back to the LD to Resup and consolodate or await the arival of assets that make the out come more of a sure thing ...
this is a common and well respected tactic. Bring you people back if they suffer casualties do your First aid checks in your secured ground. Again use your whole force...

Thanks for your input, I´ll certainly use some of it for the next games. The scenario-setup was that limited simply because I´ve not yet painted enough minis to field a larger formation ;)
So, we started nice and slow with a very limited engagement. It was intended to keep the number of enemies low as well (3 Groups + Mortar team in the beginning, nothing overwhelming) but the reinforcements just kept coming...

Regarding the actual game, I think you are quite right with point 6 which confirms my assessment, that the major mistake was moving Team Blue forward while Green kept getting punished, thus separating the elements and making them more vulnerable. Of course I then ordered all Taliban to increase pressure on the already hampered team.

I enjoyed your write up of the scenario very much. The text and related photos were very well organized. I am looking forward to seeing more of your work. Mike McLane
