Hi Guys,

we´ve tested a selfmade scenario for FoF, dealing with a US Troop disturbing a weapons deal between some Syrian regulars and a bunch of irregular troops.

Because it was the second time this setting was played, we spent lots of time dealing the rules and question concerning reinforcements for the Irregulars and such. We´re trying to provide you with a scenery map asap, for today we´de like to give you some impressions of that funny game.

Fighting took place in a town anywhere in the mid east. A compound was placed in the middle of the table, which is 6x4. We used 5 hotspots for reinforcements begiining with the 2nd turn. A key for a good game is the usage of an many building as possible with different heights to block LOS, even if troops enter the roofs.

The Syrians are regular troops, all other "bad boy"- elements are irregulars, which means activation checks if no leader is attached and the lower TQ. Reinforcements arrive automatically starting with turn 2.

Scenario Information:
Duration of Game: 8 Turns
US Objective: Enter the compound and hold it for at least one full turn.
Initiative: US first turn. Test for initiative on subsequent turns
Fog of War: Determined normally by RT rolls
Table Size: 6´x 4´

Okay, enough words are written, now see some pics (sorry for bad quality, used the cam of my mobile...)

That is a snazzy table. It looks like there was fun to be had by all. Good job.

Very nice looking table! What scale? I like the idea of mounting your trees in planters.

How did your battle go? More generally, you mentioned a preference for scenarios with lots of buildings of different heights to breakup LOS. I'm assuming that is because such a battlefield then forces at least one side to manuaver, and lack of manauver is the common factor I'm seeing in some of the sceanrios I don't like. If both sides just blast away at each other from their starting postions, then it's just a die-rolling contest. So I'm groping for scenario design concepts like "lots of buildings of different heights" that yield more interesting games.

Hi Buddy,
it´s the 20mm scale.

Well, the battle went back and forth. There was no real adavantage for either side. Most decisive thing was luck with the dierolls... ;) US had some trouble getting near the targetbuilding. When they managed to hold the roof of the appartment building, they were able to go to overwatch. That was kinda tricky for the bad guys. But they were more lucky with their shooting at the Humvees... The Abrams came into game in turn 5 by FOW-Card. But due to narrow roads he needed too much time to get to the target to bring the US back on the road to victory ;-)

All in all it was a really funny game. And yeah, due to the nature and concept of FoF it´s crucial for the game to make at least one party think of clever manouvering instead of launching a bulletstorm form the beginning of the game.

In addition to Ragnars post here are some more information for the scenario. We still have no name for the scenario so hints are warmly welcome.

US Forces
Initiative Level: D8
Confidence Level: Confident
Supply Level: Normal
Body Armor: Standard (1D)
Troop Quality/ Moral: D8/ D10

Team Alpha
1x Fire Team Leader w/M4
1xGrenadier w/M203
1xGunner w/M249
1x Rifleman w/M4

Team Bravo
1x Fire Team Leader w/M4
1xGrenadier w/M203
1xGunner w/M249
1x Rifleman w/M4

Team Charlie
1x Fire Team Leader w/M4
1xGrenadier w/M203
1xGunner w/M249
1x Rifleman w/M4

Team Delta
1x Platoon Sgt w/M4
1x Radio Operator w/M4
1x Rifleman w/M4

You can use Team Delta to bolster up the other teams, if you want.

3x M1114 Up-armoured HMMWVs mounting M2HB AP:4/ AT:1

Insurgents Force
Initiative Level: D6/ D8 (depends on the majority of the troops on the table, if you have equal or more regulars on the table you will use the D8, otherwise you have to roll the D6)
Confidence Level: Confident
Supply Level: Normal
Body Armor: N/A
Troop Quality/ Morale: Varies, See below

Syrians
Troop Quality/ Morale: D8/D8

Troop One
1x leader w/ AK
1x Gunner w/RPG
4x Rifleman w/AKs

Troop Two
1x leader w/ AK
1x Gunner w/RPG
4x Rifleman w/AKs

Local Jihadists
Troop Quality/ Morale: D6/ D12

Group One
1x Leader w/ AK
2x Gunner w/ RPGs
1x Gunner w/PKMG
5x Gunner w/ AKs

Reinforcements
On Turn 2 and every turn thereafter reinforcements automatically arrive. We used the reinforcements table from the ALAMO scenario. ( scenario 6 form the ROAD TO BAGHDAD Book)

Special Rules
Anti Tank RPG Warhead
Each time an RPG is fired roll one D6. If Syrian forces a roll of 4-6 indicates an AT RPG Hvy: AP3/ AT2. If Jihadists a 5-6 indicates an AT RPG

Settings:

One of the Syrian troops and the Jihadists group start the scenario inside the compound, to bring the weapon deal to an end. The second Syrian troop can be placed up to 10” away in any direction form the compound to secure the deal.

The US Forces have to roll a D6 to see form which direction they will arrive. On a roll of 1-3 they will arrive form the South and on 4-6 form the North. This roll takes place when the second Syrian troop is placed on the table.
