Brian when we started to put the chopper and aircraft stats together we realised that one we could never cover all the different aircraft and .....we could not guarantee that you the gamer would have a model for the one we did do . So we figured hey lets come up with some stats that could be used for any helo or fast mover with realistic results and yet alow the gamer to use any model he had in his collection and it would fit ...and that's how we decided to do it . we Figure that not every gamer would be an Air or military expert so shawn spent millions to put up this forum so guys like me could feel important and answer any questions that might arise sadly I failed to read to the small print and instead of a paycheck i get 2 bags of stale airport peanuts a week ....LOL and Gunny never lets me fell important ....we got ya covered Brian.....Mikey

Aw Mikey.. If I were to do that.. you'd owe ME one of those bags o' stale airline peanuts as then it'd be a 50:50 partnership Although I must admit.. I DO read your responses to the rules questions.. but I won't admit to that in public heh. One thing I learned about gamers early on in my miniature gaming career.. gamers are never happy with any set of rules. They'll always nitpick some stat, rule, etc. That's why this system is so refreshing with the 'If you don't like the way it works, change it" mentality. Kudos to the crew!

Is there a way that you can put some of the weapons that are used on the helicopters or planes so that we do it? Or can you do some helicopters (the main ones) so we have more of an idea.

One Eye Fixed wing Aircraft will usually carry Dropped ordinance like Joint direct attack Munitions (or smart bombs) Iron bombs. Larger missiles like the Maverick. The only true Ground attack Aircraft Like The A10 and SU25 are getting scarce Their benefit was a slower approach and armor to the crew and avionics areas and a rotary fixed cannon. If Air to air combat was expected of course they would carry AAM for defence. Rotary wing Aircraft are lighter and have different flight characteristics (Lower and slower) so naturally the Load out is lighter (Not Less lethal) They carry Multiple Anti Tank missiles like Tow and hellfire or soviet ATM cannon and rocket (they may also carry AAMs) . In a fight with a conventional foe they would carry Anti Radar missiles and other weapons to destroy anti aircraft weapon systems as well. There is a bewildering amount of aircraft and choppers out there to stat out each one would be impossible on the game table its possible to field a model of almost every air platform in service. we felt it would be best to use generic stats that really represented what the class of aircraft would carry that way you could field you favorite or even just the model you had to hand with out having to buy every thing there was out there

I know this is a lot of information to ask for but is there any way that you can state what the stats are for the weapons on the helicopters and planes? For example, the 30 mm cannon on the A10, the maverick missiles, and the tow and hell fire missiles. I want to use the hind, hip, cobra, or apache helicopter but I would like to know the stats for their weapons so that I can have them fairly on the board. Also, planes that were used in Vietnam for ground support (napalm) would be helpful.

Brian Im going to go back to my notes and the Motorpool , But honestly the overall effect are covered by the stats in the main rule book for fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. If you where to use those it would more then meet your needs. as to napalm Im not sure but temporarily till i find my notes Droped in pairs AP 10 AT 10 4 inches each side of a line 8 inches long paralel to flight path... For both canisters but be advised that napalm is not used much after vietnam as man had developed a much more eficient killer in the air droped Fuel air explosive or FAE munition sometimes refered to Thermobaric munitions. For vietnam just to show you what i mean in regards to what your asking . F4 Phantom A7 Crusader F8 Corsair F105 thunderchief F100 Vodoo B57 canbera B52 Buff F5 tiger shark or scoshi Bandit F9F Panther OV10 Bronco OV1 Mohawk A37 Tweet T28 Trojan T6 Texan A1A Skyraider A4 Skyhawk O1 Birddog AC119 shadow AC47 Spooky AC130 specter Thats just a sample of free world fixed wing capable of delivering ordinance In the Vietnam War it would take several books alone to do all the aircraft we havent even touched on the communist or CIA air craft. So Honestly I will help you out with a few to give you a feeling into doing your own ,But i just don't see AAG doing Individual stats for Air platforms.....Mikey

Thanks for the help!
That is quite a list...also, it should be noted that some specific stats for helicopters and fixed wing are in the scenario special rules anyways...probably just need to dig a bit more for some stats.
Thanks! Brian

IanS The Marines used TF-9Js as Fast FACs in Vietnam.

Not aware of any F9F/F-9s in the VNAF. You might be thinking of the F8F Bearcat.

There's so much information involved in all of this, its hard to keep track of everything.
On a related note, I drafted up a document statting out helicopters and associated ordnance for the Ambush Valley time-frame, but haven't had any opportunity to play test it. If people are interested, PM an email address and I can send it along. I'd appreciate any feedback from play on whether its on the right track and whether the format is appealing. We've been talking about working out a motorpool-type document for aircraft, so it would be good to get a sense of what people might want.
