Call me nuts, but I was thinking.. What about a WW I or WW II air variant of Force on Force?

Already have rules for vehicle mounted MGs. Just need some rules for movement and damage tables..

Thoughts?

My unconsidered knee-jerk reaction to this is that Force on Force, as a fire-team based game, is missing far too much of what'd be required to make for a good air variant to be worthwhile (unless maybe you're going for squadrons against each other, a load of defending fighters taking on a big wing of bombers and their escorts and so on - and apologies for my complete ignorance of aerial unit terminology).

Vehicles against vehicles on a one-on-one basis in Force on Force is to a large extent just a dice-rolling game - try to roll high to hit, try to roll high to defend, try to roll high on the damage table, survival of the luckiest. To make a good air combat game would require loads and loads of good rules for movement and positioning and maybe stuff like the sun and weather, so much so that it'd be pretty much writing a new game almost from the ground up, except trying to shoe-horn it into a set of mechanics designed primarily for insurgency-counterinsurgency infantry combat.

Sorry to sound so negative, of course it'd be cool if it'd work, but as a gut reaction I'm inclined to think there's already loads of rules sets that do what's required, and better than a Force on Force hack would.

Good perspective actually. When I find a game system I like, I tend to look at other applications of the rules. Sometimes they fit.. sometimes they don't. Always good to get another perspective :)

Currently, for air-to-air WW II, I'm still using the old Battleline 'Air Force' and 'Dauntless' set from the late 70's early 80's (before Avalon Hill picked it up)
