With the impending release of this new rule set and the accompanying hype I've seen a few disparaging comments about FoF - usual stuff - overcomplicated, not user friendly etc. etc.
FoF WW2 is still the default choice for my club and we had a very successful Normandy 1944 game at Salute 2012 earlier in the year which was well received.
What is frustrating is that FoF's public profile is embedded in the modern era and its WW2 application seems to be virtually non existent. I don't want to jump ship but have to admit that Bolt Action looks interesting and well supported.
When is FoF WW2 going to get the profile its deserves and a new version of the WW2 rules released?

This is an independent response and in no way reflects AAGs policy or plans official or otherwise....No one will burn your effigy if you play another set of rules. and the surest ways to see the product you want is to contact Shawn offer to serve or lead the development team and using your clubs successful mods help write the darn thing...That will get it the rotation far quicker then anything else i can immagine...Personaly I wish that more then a few forum members wrote up and posted mods ...there are folks playing everything from AWI to colonial to SCW and WW1/2....Mikey

We have a gentleman's agreement with Osprey not to publish a WWII game for a year or so. We will eventually produce a stand-alone WWII version of Force on Force, because that's what the subject deserves. That said, however, we have two WWII scenarios in our upcoming Special Operations book (FoF Companion Book and intend to provide more WWII scenarios and the special rules needed to support them, both in our companion books and on our website. I strongly encourage you to share your ideas about what you think a WWII FOF game should look like because we pay very close attention to what our players want! I'll probably revisit this in more detail later, but for now that's the official word. Mikey makes some good points, too, though!

Hi
Shawn. With the up coming release of the Special Ops book, can we be expecting an announcement on what AAG's plans for 2013 Osprey releases are?

You bet. I'll make a post about it when I get back from taking the kids to school (another insight into the exciting, jet-set life we lead here in the Stately AAG Towers!

Ooh.. Didn't know you piloted the AAG helicopter for taking your kids to school. If there is a lot of people playing FoF in other eras than the books, can't you open a section in the fof-forum for mods where people can upload their own stuff, idéas and such?

Mikey,
It is cool to hear that posting mods for other conflicts would be welcome. I use FoF to play many periods including Old West, Plains Wars, and FIW. It works great. Is there a prefered place to post period mods for others to see and comment on?

Remind me after I get back from Recruits and I'll set something up on the forum to use until I get the wiki going!
Remind me, though - I'll almost certainly forget. I've got a hectic week coming next week.

We used it for a few Colonial India games... Worked a treat.
Sign of a good set of mechanics in my view.
But Im starting my TW armies tonight so dont expect any mods from me!

I'd love to see a section of the forums designated for mods...ESPECIALLY WW2!!
Thanks! Brian

Interesting to see the reaction from this post.
Got my mitts on a copy of Bolt Action at last. Got to agree with other web posts as the content and quality of the hardback book is impressive.
The order sequence mechanism has generated quite a lot of posts on other forums, namely each turn a coloured marker/dice is put in a container for each of the units in play then one of these is drawn out randomly to indicate which side can give an order to one of it's units. Once that order is completed the next marker/dice is drawn and so on until all the markers have been drawn. Then the process is repeated for the next turn.
I quite like this mechanism; its easily understood, seems ideally to solo gaming. As for the core rules, my initial reading is that they lack the elegance of Force on Force WW2.
So I won't be jumping ship, Force on Force WW2 still reigns supreme in my view. Albeit with the possible add on of the order sequence mechanism - a sort of 'Force on Force WW2 - Bolted Down', if you like!
