Watched a programme last night about WW2 Stalingrad which would be a perfect book can even imagine a cool cover also (russian assault platoon blasting a hole in a wall with their attached AT gun) . Speaking of WW2 i was wondering if your hands are tied with Ospreys WW2 rules coming out later in the year with someone else. Im sticking with FOF as they are the best ive read that suit my needs and ive read alot of rules and FOF is the best and will remain so. Why doesnt the Korean war and Pacific WW2 get any coverage its always Normandy well mostly thats the gap i see sorry for my ramblings.

Re: WWII

Osprey's upcoming release with Warlord has no bearing on our release schedule. Our WWII book is not coming soon just because we need to get all our ducks in a row. ;) When our WWII book comes out we'll definitely be showing some love to the Pacific AND Korea. Funny you should mention the Pacific theater though...

Our upcoming Special Operations book contains a WWII Pacific scenario. :)

Not sure Korea was in WW2 Peggy...

Simple.

More people play that than Pacific and Korea put together and some...

So if you want to sell WW2 rules, you pitch them at the most popular period first. Then you digress into other theatres.

OMGWTF! It's not?????? :p

I realize I had a public school education in the US, but it wasn't THAT bad. When we've discussed our WWII game in the hot tub at stately AAG Towers we've also discussed how we'd do any Korea supplements under the WWII mechanics as they are more closely aligned with that as far as weapons and tactics except near the end.

In one word... Tanks. Gamers love their tanks and other vehicles.. It's a shame really considering the PTO had lots of tanks, half-tracks, and other vehicles as well as infantry. Battle of Okinawa had a major tank-on-tank battle as well as the Sino-Japanese front, Burma, and others.

I dunno... Fair few key differences in my view... But yes, likely sits easier with WW2 than Cold War for example in terms of gaming mechanic relations.

Would be nice to see it done properly, its a really forgotten period, not helped by a lack of decent miniatures.

My choices would be:-

1) Soviet-Afghan war

2) More Cold war (in West Germany)

3) WW2 Eastern Front (Stalingrad, Bagration, Ukraine, Poland, Baltic states etc)

4) Chechnya

That's it at the moment

Paul

BTW. In Burma, I think there was a British M3 Stuart vs. Japanese M3 Stuart engagement.
Don't quote me on that though.

Here is some ideas for the pot. its a bit rambly but bare with me.

I like the idea of non military games. scenarios based round that work of organisations like the DEA/ATF and the Police themselves. The emphasis being on arrest and capture of individuals. The scenario scope could cover drug busts, people trafficking, or civil unrest, such as riots, where water cannon is employed.

Additionally the period could be varied, to cover the prohabition era, with the untouchables and Al capone. But this idea also leads me on to a more radical thought. maybe a book based on gang wars, from the perspective of the gang leaders, the mafia boses, the Yakuza, with the local law enforcement more in the role of the "insurgents". Scenarios would include gang warfare (drive by shootings that escalate) Bank heists etc. For a more military aspect, the south american drug cartels could be an interesting avenue, with DEA and military units combating local militia protecting their crops.

Another avenue could be the anti terrorism stuff. not necessarily al queda, but more Waco, or Princes Gate (the famous scene of the SAS on the balcony in 1981) or aircraft heists, where SWAT and other similar teams are used.

OK thats the main core ideas. Basically Gang warfare, Prohibition, South American Drug Cartels, and SWAT (some might say why you not say that to start with!!)

Spanish Civil War.

Lots of potential for Symmetric and Asymmetric scenarios between militia columns and conventional forces.

I think there's some great scenario material in events like the capture of the Barcelona Telephone Exchange and the inter-faction conflicts of the Barcelona May Days as well as many set piece conventional battles.

-Ultra-modern Chinese PLA versus all comers! Including Taiwan, USA, Japan, etc. The most likely avenue of a full-blown conventional war in the current period is either through China or...

-North Korea. A North Korean attack on the ROK in the modern day would consist of an all out blitzkrieg on the DMZ combined with CBRN missile attacks and mass-infiltration of special forces into South Korea in order to cause general chaos. I read this on some forum, so take it with a grain of salt, but I read that soldiers on the DMZ are expected last at least seven minutes on their own against the Red onslaught before air support can be brought on station. The problem is that a soldier's life expectancy there is only 15 seconds! This provides scope for numerous scenarios including desperate holding actions against overwhelming forces, combined arms counterthrusts, and special forces raids and terrorism; all with the spectre of WMD in the background.

Hmmm - off the top of my head:

Soviets in Afghanistan, possibly including some 'Hollywood' scenarios to add some variety?

Russia's wars - Chechnya, Georgia, etc.

Falklands War

Yugoslavian Civil War

A 2nd Cold War book - more scenarios, etc; possibly focusing on an early 'imaginary war'? say early-mid 70's, or some such?

Britains Jungle wars - Malaya & Borneo
