Nope, thanks. I really have to get moving on all the stuff for painting so I can get all these goodies on the table. :) Just got the Enduring Freedom module this week and am trying to wrap up current projects before I start working on those new ones. Part of my gaming addiction I guess.

Now if you need a bunch of 6mm ACW or Napoleonic troops, let me know. My basing leaves a bunch of infantry left over too. I love way too many eras for my own good.

Just picked up Bush Wars and saw the mounted troops in bush hats. Strikes me that the ACW Confederate cav would serve well for these guys. I'll dig out my leftover H&R cav and see what all I have there. I need to work on troops starting with the first modules and work my way back but I like to have the figures available anyway. I have Baccus 6mm Confederate Cav as well, but they are much larger than H&R and would dwarf GHQ/CinC figures, while H&R are much closer in size. Who knows, with a little bit of filing to the bush hats, these might work for the special ops guys in Afghanistan that used horses.

Just ordered two US Combat Command packs of GHQ troops - Delta troops with choppers and MRAP set - from Miniatures of Chesapeake. They have a standard 15% off on all the GHQ and some other lines, including 15mm Flames of War and FoW Vietnam. Downside to their online store is that they dont carry any of the blister packs of GHQ stuff yet.

A brief review of the Irregular Modern Civilian Vehicles set - got 2 sets from Silver Eagle Wargames Supply in Connecticut, $13 each, 10 vehicles per pack, including a semi tractor trailor rig, SUV, minivan, ambulance, full size, compact and sports models and a motorcycle and sidecar combination. Only piece in the pack that needed much work was the semi trailer that needed a bit of filing and scraping of a large bit of flash, particularly bad on the rear doors. Otherwise, very nice. The full size car looks perfect for the Chevy Caprice Taxis mentioned in several books about the use of these cars by irregulars as transport to the fighting in Baghdad. The SUV will be perfect for that Contracting Trouble scenario. I figure the semis will work well for supply convoys from Pakistan into Afghanistan, even though they are more of the standard US type.

Also got a pack of 100 1/300 cars via Ebay from a company in Hong Kong. These little white plastic models are made for archetectural models. Nice, modern looking sporty cars. Down side, they all seem to be the same model. Upside, the whole package was under $10 including shipping. I'll just paint a variety of colors and maybe do some damage with a dremel tool to make some wrecks out of the bunch.

After looking through the rule book and several of the modules, it struck me that I can add an M240 MG to the HUMMWVs for the Delta model we see in several of the images. I have 2 or 3 leftovers from the GHQ M-1A1s where they came as the loader's MG mount. Will go back through and see if it was only the 50cal mount model or both that and the Mk19 mount. I could try to drill out part of the passenger window if I got really inspired but for now, I dont think so.

Got my CinC order today, with their M577 models. I like their model a bit more with the seperate boards but think it would be cool if GHQ or CinC made a version with the extended shelter for a deployed TOC. That would be a cool deployed unit HQ model.

Got the GHQ US Urban Combat command set and the US Delta set with helicopters.

Everything is pretty straight forward in putting the stuff together in the Urban Combat set from the pictures on the box and on the website, except for the Buffalo EOD vehicle. The little brass ladder and the extending arm are not pictured well enough to sort out how to put that together. A forum member on the GHQ forum put some large pictures on of the real thing that helped me put the arm on, but still didnt help all that much with the ladder. In the end, I folded the upper parts that bend over the back of the Buffalo and glued it towards the center of the back. Seems it should be more to the left, but it doesnt sit well over the small details on the back of the buffalo. All vehicles will be painted with the Krylon Sand camo paint while the infantry go into the stockpile for later use for woodland camo for the CWGH scenarios.

The 3 MH-53s in the Delta set are somewhat complicated, but the instructions with them are well detailed with good pictures. 16 parts to each model if you use the brass rotor blades, but you can use clear plastic disks to show the rotors in motion (disks not included but easy enough to make from a sheet of transparency or the clear flat surface from a bubble pack from many minis packages). Just make sure to have a hole centered for the rotor shaft and put the rotor hub over it. I'd suggest drilling the hole for the stand before assembling, now that I have mine assembled and see it's going to be tricky to handle the model while drilling. The Apache helicopter is simple enough, but mine had the missiles and rocket pods bent to one side on the wings and I needed to first cut the missiles from the side of the rocket pods and then twist them both slightly to face forward. 8 parts if you use the brass rotors, but again, I think making the clear spinning rotor is worth the effort. The 30-some US infantrymen included aren't really Delta troops, but I will paint them based on the uniforms used in Mogadishu, black helmets and black vests over regular desert camo uniforms. That will make them stand out from the other US regulars. I'm using a Rustoleum Gray Primer for the Air Force MH-53s and Krylon OD Green camo for the Apache.

With our regional game convention, Advance The Colors, just around the corner, I'm starting my shopping list for I-94 Enterprise's visit with a few packs of modern British troops for the Afghanistan scenarios that use them. I need to hold off on anything new before that so I can wrap up painting all the other stuff I'm accumulating. Need to get more bad guys painted so the good guys have more play time.

Tried my hand with a wash of GW Devlin Mud on my Taliban figures. The colors I used seemed just a little too bland or plain. This worked out very well, bringing out a lot of the little details that GHQ puts in their figures that a simple paint job somewhat hides. Think I'll go back over my US Army and Marines with it now. I've used an older GW flesh wash for years and loved it on larger scale figures. Just need to get the last 4 or 5 sprues of figures done tonight then start putting the magnetic tape on the bottoms of the bases, and finally paint the bases in a generic sand color to match some small washers I'm going to use to base the irregular cells on as needed. Without flocking, they wont be as pretty, but it will be easy enough to remove figures as cell members 'melt away' or get left behind due to CASEVAC rules during games. Will try to wrap up a bunch after I get home from Advance The Colors on Sunday. I have a pack of the troops and a pack of heavy weapons plus about half a pack that was part of the Taliban Combat Command pack.

Trying to figure out if I want to bother with the bar armor etched brass stuff for the Strykers. Looks like a lot of work bending and fitting for micro scale. My gut says it would be better to leave it off, designate if the vehicles are armored that way or not and avoid the headache and heartache of putting that on and having it bent and damaged in handling. Any others with experience in this stuff? Thanks.

Ive been putting that off as well good news is I only have enough for five vehicles anyway....and the strykers in afganistan either dont use it or only use parts of it from what I have seen....Mikey

Hi,

I was wondering if someone would be willing to post a picture of their 1/285 infantry based?

Thanks
John

You can see some of mine here: viewtopic.php?f=33&t=10263

Small pics but I'll try to find a camera with a decent zoom. I use 15x20mm Litko bases for 4-5 figure stands so far. I have 15mm sqare for small teams like snipers and the like, 20mm square for HMG, Recoilless Rifles, on-table arty, etc. Still experimenting with metal bases for the irregulars. I'll get some pics taken when I have a base worked out for them.

These bases are small enough to fit nicely between buildings and on rooftops. May reason for a 15mm depth is the prone guys. They wont fit a narrower base. I've used this same thing for my WW2 GHQ troops for a few years.
