Are they going to adopt the Multicam pattern or will they start another USD 5 billion development program ?

Maybe with the budget cuts, they will opt into the Air Force's blue tigerstripe. Used to joke with them at Wright Patterson AFB that I never have seen a blue jungle. That with "where's hanger 18" got a lot of laughs from gate guards. Tom Oxley

They have been testing a bunch of different uniforms for a year now. Multicam is too expensive to switch the whole army to ( although the Brits did)...and while there are several other contenders, it looks like the Army will be going to AOR 1 and 2, which look almost exactly like Marpat, woodlands and desert. Another story I have read is that they will go to armor and gear in Ranger Green so it will match up with both types of uniforms, the way Marines went with coyote brown.

That means the camo will still be difficult to paint. What about going back to Olive drab ?

I still have to worry about painting digital camo - after all, for most battles during Iraq and Afghanistan 2003+ they were wearing ACU.

Either way, do you think the ACU will still be in use for a couple more years while the army decides on a new camo and then eventually start replacing all those uniforms and gear with new ones? Would they really replace something they've spent billions on just like that in today's economy? ACU does seem to blend in grey urban enviorments, so is it really as bad as people say it is?

Might want to read this article as well - http://blog.predatorbdu.com/2012/06/top ... flage.htmlUntil I see footage of army soldiers "officially" ditiching their ACU for some hot new camoflage, I am not about to repaint all my empress US Army figures dammit! I've been reading news of some last minute replacement for the ACU from the mainstream media for quite sometime now but still have yet to see any single concept for said replacement. And speaking of "mainstream media", everytime I read an article about the ACU being replaced, they only seem to quote from soldiers who have a negative view of the camoflage. Is this just the media being biased to make the Army look bad for wasteful spending or is this really the universal view among soldiers? Also, putting functionality aside and from a purely "awesome looking model point of view", am I the only one here that thinks ACU looks bad ass?

TJX wrote: ACU does seem to blend in grey urban enviorments, so is it really as bad as people say it is? Yes. Yes it is. I was in a unit that got to do some of the testing. Its was a walking path with different camo swatches/uniforms/people in the uniforms. Some stood out like hunters in blaze orange, other you had to have them pointed out. Though people stuck out for the most part, because a person shaped tree is a person shaped tree. After a bit of distance, everything looks the same. The first unit to show up with them at JRTC practically glowed their ACUs were so new. Which meant they stood out in pine trees and sand. Though like the article says: UCP is here for a while. Hell, I stayed in BDUs till the wear out date. Got chewed on by a CSM for it too.
