The organization of RARs (Royal Australian Regiments) are apparently changing(ed).

The basic building block of Australian orgnization will be the "brick." A brick is basically a 4 man fireteam. Two bricks compose a section and 3 sections compose a platoon.

Additionally, Maneuver Support Teams are being added. MSTs are bricks armed with AT weapons or heavier infantry suppression weapons than the standard infantry brick. MSTs may be attached as half a section, as their own section at the platoon level or as a company asset.

Both the infantry brick and MST will probably be using Australia's new "Weapon's Room" philosophy, which means that their special weapons operators are trained in the use of several weapon systems and may be fielded with the weapon system that is most mission appropriate rather than just going out with cookie cutter equipment. In an armor heavy environment, they may take more AT than suppression weapons, and vice verse in an infantry heavy engagement.

Basic proposed organization looks like this:

Platoon = 3xSections
Section = 2xBricks
Infantry Brick= 1xTeam Leader w/small arms, 1xRifleman w/small arms, 1xGunner w/SAW (Lt. Support Weapon), 1xGrenadeier w/RGL (Lt. Support Weapon)
MST Brick= 1xTeam Leader, 1xGunner w/GPMG or SMAW (Med. Support Weapon), 1xGrenadier w/RGL (Lt. Support Weapon), 1xSniper

Please correct me if I've made a mistake on this!

I think you're confusing Australian TO&E with the UK's. The Brits have those genetically engineered badgers (GEBs).

I think there's one GEB attached to each platoon, but I could be wrong . . .

Shawn did you want to post up the current roster example or is that listed somewhere else on the forums?

If you've got a more current roster you'd like to share, David, that would be great. Feel free to post it here!

Gents,

Just noticed this and wanted to add operational doctrine has changed and is now 'brick' based pretty much as defined by Shawn. RTF in the Ghan are running platoons at around 40 blokes give or take currently with the MST bricks being attached at what was section level (ie two to three bricks however you may have a tasking of just MST guys for specific jobs or one rifle brick and an MST for instance). Very flexible. No sections, per se, operationally anymore.

MSTs have access to F89 LSWs, MAG58s and 84s (and LAWs). SR-25s and SR-98s can be deployed with the MSTs although Recon/Sniper Platoon is still a battalion asset (Javelin is also still held at battalion level I understand).

Hope this assists.

we used to have wombats to, but that was way back in the 1970's, it was after they had evolved from furry things into a 120mm recoiless rifle

Thanks for the update Leigh. I was going to get into what was coming but thought there was a little more time before it actually hit the field.

So how are these divided into bricks?

Typical infantry brick- 2 x F88, 1 x F89, 1 x F88/M203. Typical MST brick- 2 x F88, 1 x MAG58, 1 x SR-25 although the kit is variable- could be a pair of MAGs, could be F89s, could be anti armour. Multiples as required.

I think the brick is current having just come in, while the other listing was what they used to run with.
