I am currently putting together an Australian SF strike force, including commandos and SAS, for Uruzgan games. I'm wanting to get them some transport. I already have several Blackhawks being painted but I'm wanting some ground vehicles as well. What types of vehicles would these units use in theatre? Perenties and Bushmasters are out since I am doing the force in 15mm, but I thought Land Rover Defenders might be a possibility. If anyone can let me know if this would be accurate, or what other options I might have in 15mm, that would be great.

There comes a time when historical accuracy needs to be thrown out the window ...But not to far if the Vehicles you need are not available whether they are not being made or not affordable then you go ahead and use landies the important thing is You did your research tried to model it recognize that landies wern't used. You play the game you have fun that's all anyone can ask.....Mikey

I agree, sometimes you have to do with what's close enough when it comes to games.

For this, however, I would recommend consulting ANZAC Steel's 4-part series on Land Rovers in Australian Service here.

Also, I believe the SASR use a 6x6 Land Rover derivative, the name of which I cannot think of off the top of my head.

SOTG do use Landies- the SRV (Surveillance Reconnaissance Vehicle)- based on a 110 Landie.

Bushmasters, LRPV Perentie and the soon to be fully deployed Nary are the others.

Unimogs... 8) Not because it's factually accurate, but because they look cool!

Plus, Mercedes Unimogs are common in most NATO militaries, I'm sure the Oz SF will have a couple for their boys when the Hong Kong riot police and Counterterrorism unit's got at least one for theirs!

Thanks for that guys. The ANZAC Steel site was handy too! Its made me want to build some 1st Armoured guys... *must... not.. build... koalas...*

SRVs it is then. I think WMIKS with some of the extra guns removed could work, or just Defenders if anybody knows of a company which produces M240 cupolas?

Mate go with WMIKs with tons of extra storage- close enough. we don't use M240s- it's the FN MAG58 in ADF service but in 15mm who the hell's going to be able to tell anyway :P
