i have wanted to build an oil storage depot for years and have collected a few odds and ends for it for quite a while, so last weekend i decided to get it done and here is the result,
Image
the base is an off cut of 3mm mdf, the tanks are cylindrical biscuit and cocoa tins,
Image
the office container is a seconds damaged one that warped during casting, the pipes are just plastic tubes, and there is the end from an old electrical capacitor, as well as some plastic strip and rod.
Image
the most expensive item was the ladder, it's a plastruct one and was about £4.00 and choped in half,
i will need to buy another one as i plan to make another depot as well at some point.
the truck is a 1/72 diecast tanker from ebay, i have a few of these for those convoy ambush games,
Image
the base is coated in pva then sand is added, then painted sand coloured emulsion then i used a gw sepia wash,
the tanks are white primer sprayed then a gw ogrin flesh wash is done with the odd devlan mud as well.
i wanted it a bit generic so that i have made it suitable for our desert and african games so that is why there is no vegitation.
all in all it was a quick and easy build and relativley cheap as well.
i have made a chemical plant as well but that is drying so will be pictured soon,
thanks
for looking
shaun

Really nicely done.
You need to have a low wall around the tanks called a bund. It's to stop leaks from contaminating the surrounding area.It also gives your models some hard cover.

I love it. Storage tanks - something I always wanted to create for my desert board. Your are looking fine as they are, although I miss some writing (emblem) on those tanks. 8)
