I hope someone has either had this problem, or knows someone who has. I KNOW I have read articles about this, but I can not seem to find any of them.
My usual process after painting is to either varnish with a gloss coat (generally Krylon Crystal Clear), or let the 'dip' just do it for me (the Army Painter dips tend to finish very shiny). Following that, I want them to be flatter looking, so I spray with a matte varnish.
I used to just use Testors Dullcote, which works fairly well, but is $5 a can for a tiny little can. One day, I was in a pinch and needed a matte coat right then, but they only stocked 'hobby store' brands. The can of GW "Purity Seal" was ancient, so I passed on that (good move from what I heard, they have since discontinued it) and picked up a can of the Armory Matte (

Fast forward a year and a half or so. That can was in a milk crate with the rest of my spray cans, in the garage, until I went back to Colorado to pick them up. So, probably exposed to low temps in the garage in CO, then in the closet in Arizona (so, higher temps).
When I used it to spray my PMC's, it resulted in a non-matte surface. I sprayed again. Still glossy. I shook the can up for about 15 minutes, and sprayed again. Cloudy look. Pulled out the Testors Dullcote and used that, getting a fairly matte look to it.
So, yesterday I finished with my DBA Hun army (lots of skirmishing horsemen!), based and all, and wanted to seal them before I left for a visit to the inlaws. Got out my Armory Matte spray, shook it up for a good half hour (sitting there, watching Star Trek, working my forearm by shaking up this can of spray... I lead an exciting life right now). Sprayed them, and they came out looking frosted.
Help? Should I just ditch the Armory brand and stick with the Dullcote, or is this can bad, or is there an issue with the temperature, or what? Its been 110 or so here, but I am spraying them on my porch in the shade (so, think 95-100 degrees or so?), low humidity, and then walk right back inside to let them dry. The AC is on inside, so its in the high 70's. Would that be a factor?
