While looking at the USA TO&E, I noticed that a point is made to designate that they have M4's with ACOG's. Is there a rule I missed somewhere for units equipped with them, or was this just flavor?

advanced optics are not the prob its the weapon its on . and the terminal balistics of the round fired by that weapon. I think the reference refers to spoting rather then firing......Mikey

I'm pretty sure it's something to do with optimum range, I think it gets doubled, I will check later, but I'm heading out, sorry.

Thanks for checking guys. With the usual AAG "its not the weapon, but the user" gameplay, I never really gave much thought to it, but it seemed worth asking.

I think is not that important, it can be if you use the marksman rule, but I just guess.

ACOG scopes double your optimum range benefit.

I can't recall ever having seen it in the main book.
The rule stems from an original FOF expansion called Operation: Uruzgan, which dealt with the Australians in Uruzgan province Afghanistan.
To represent the advantages of every Australian rifle having an ELCAN or ACOG scope, they could all double their optimum range.
Also, because of their intrateam comms, they could double their unit coherence range, allowing you to spread out further.
Its not in the new OEF book or the main book I think, so you'll have to use it as a houserule.

Pg 141, Advanced Optics maybe?
Of course, it doesn't give any examples of what an Advanced Optic is (this is the sort of thing I find really frustrating about the rules tbh) but I'd say ACOG, SUSAT etc counted.

There is mention of doubling the optimum range in the Optimum Range and Troop Quality section at the top of p37.

Ah, yes, that's it exactly.
That rule was definitely meant for modern US and NATO fireteams. "Enhanced optics" in this case can mean ELCAN, ACOG or anything similar.
The advanced optics rule on page 141 refers only to vehicle mounted sensors and scanners.

Hi,
Does it mean that every "NATO" trooper has a double optimum range?
