I noticed Ambush Valley is now available. I have the original. What kind of updates should I expect to see in the new version.?

Shedloads.
Thats the technical term.
Around 150+ pages of new TOE data, all new scenarios and more stuff that I cant even remember writing!
Its not so much an update... More an all new book. Even new pics too!

Got mine last week and I'm afraid to say I'm rather disappointed.
Only six scenarios.
Much prefer the format of the other two supplements, a little background information and loads of scenarios.

Sorry you were disappointed by the number of scenarios, Derek. We knew some people would be, but we had to make a decision - we could either include the standard number of scenarios and roughly half the organization info we give in the current book, or we could include less scenarios and provide a definitive, stand-alone source book for the Vietnam conflict. We chose to go with the later approach because it saved the average gamer from hours of research and gave them the ability to run scenarios using pretty much any force that saw combat during the period we cover.
I don't think there's another single gaming resource out there with the depth of coverage provided by Ambush Valley.
We'll be offering all the original Ambush Valley scenarios, updated to the standard of the new version of FoF/AV, as free downloads on the website soon. New scenarios have also appeared in Wargames Illustrated and I'm sure you'll see more new scenarios available for download, too. Hopefully that will make up for the limited number we had space for in the book.

Sounds fine for me, too! I like books with TOEs over scenarios, if I have to choose. I'm just researching US field manuals from the 1980s for my CWGH force. It's a pain I can tell you. It's hard to acquire field manuals in Germany, I even asked someone with access to a military archive. Some of these are not available as PDFs and without military membership in the US Army, you cannot download freely from their servers. Which obviously is a good idea.

This is really on a post-9/11 reality. A huge amount of information used to be freely available. Now its all behind a firewall, whether its approved for public release or not. What is online and publicly available is buried and you really have to know where to look, which is unfortunate. I luckily do this kind of research for a living, so it was relatively easy to know where I had to look for information needed for AV.

You see i am of the other opinion to that. Apart from what i have seen in the movies i dont know a great deal about the conflict and having just the brief look that i have had it seems great for me, a really good source book. Its hard to get it right for everybody, but for me you have. Cant wait to sit down and peruse it properly. Keep up the good work. Paul.

We simply ran out of room as the TOE data was huge and we felt that it was better to include that as it wasnt easily available in print. I hope you find it more interesting as you delve deeper inside. Oh and who knows... Joe and me are already discussing a possible Ambush Valley scenario book...

Do you guys see doing a book of scenarios kind of like the rule book, but bigger? Where you have 6-10 for each supplement book you put out? So some Iraq, Vietnam, Cold War ect in one book? It would be a place for all the ones you couldn't cram into those sups.

Away with your foul temptations! My wallet can't support Vietnam as well as Iraq/Afghanistan, Cold War and WW2. Stop making it such an attractive prospect! Although, I could just eat beans on toast for a month, right?

Rewrite the scenarios for other areas/eras and you're good to go.
