Need some clarification/help...

I've got the Ceasar's Modern German Army set...(nice figs btw), I can't help but notice that there aren't any support weapons (SAWS, UGLs..etc...)

So, I looked in my Enduring Freedom book at the TO&Es provided. The Panzergrenadier list shows the grenadier using a HK69...Granatpistole 40 mm.

So my first question, is this weapon still in use or when was it phased out? Since it's inclusion in the EF book, I kinda assume it's still in use.

Also, for support weapons, does the Bundeswehr use the G36M (drum magazine) for a SAW or not? I don't see it listed in the TO&Es in EF, so (again assuming) it's not used anymore?

If not, any ideas on converting the figures to use a MG4 or MG3..wrong subsection for this question, sorry about that!

The AG36 has started to replace the HK69, but the latter is still in use. The G36 can be equipped with a bipod and the drum magazine, but I'm not sure I would classify it as a SAW. I think it should be less suitable for sustained automativ fire than a "real" SAW, such as the M249.

Well it is more than 16 years since i served with the Bundeswehr. At this time we had the G3 Rifle, the MG3 and the Grapi (short for Granatpistole). The Panzerfaust 3 was very new then.

According to the German Wikipedia page the G3 is still in use as a marksman weapon at squad level (with a ZF, a telescopic sight i assume).

As support weapon the MG 3 is also still in use, but for fighting dismounted the MG 4 has replaced the MG 3 (at least in theory, don't know how far it has happend, the Bundeswehr has to save money).
The MG 4 is similar / comparable to the SAW:

At least on vehicles or at check points the MG 3 can be seen on the news reel.

The G36 would be unsuitable as a SAW, the standard barrel gets to hot quickly, degrading accuracy. This has happend for example even during a shooting competion where the same rifles where used for everyone (and that only in single shot mode).
A thicker barrel would be neccessary to lessen this effect.

The HK69 will be replaced by the AG36, but is still in use.

Both the Revell sets have soldiers with the MG 3. With the relase dates of these sets in mind, none of these has a MG 4 . It is unfortunate that the Cäsar set has none of these, they are more in use than a Panzerfaust (Taliban do not use tanks, do they?).

yeah...that's the problem, I'm trying to figure out how to get a MG4 to use with the Caesar figs..I really like them, and I can live w/o the UGL, but the SAW is kinda important...

hmmm....might take some serious hacking

I could go with SandS , does anyone know if they scale appropriately with 1/72 plastics?

It looks like the Bundeswehr MG4 gunner is just a modification done by adding an ammo box? I can't quite tell from the angle of the pic? Is that correct?

The weapons in Caesar are not really well sculpted so when I used all SAWS
I just add the ammo box to the standard rifle and for me its ok I'm not very exigent .

for the MG3 you can maybe use some WWII MG42 it looks similar in this scale I think.

That's the main problem I do have with the Caesar sets. They leave out all the important toys.

But to answer your question regarding S&S: they are a perfect match size-wise with Caesar plastics and Shaun (good to have him making our stuff) has all the weapons you might need - AG36, MG4, MG3.
