After having a chance to play over the weekend, the thought struck me  that I may not understand the turn sequence like I thought I did. I see the sequence with action/reaction as being the full turn, and when both sides have finished the last of the reactions, the next turn starts. What I think I saw at the game on Saturday morning was that after that initial sequence, the sides changed who acted and who reacted. Just wanted to make sure I understand that correctly. And hope I'm explaining what I mean well enough.

It depens on who has initiative for the turn. That side gets to activate his units one by one. An activated unit may declare an Action to which the non-initiative player can React with any units in LOS.

At the end of the turn, after the initiative player has activated all his units, the non-initiative player may have some units left that have not made a Reaction yet during the turn. Those non-initiative units then get an Activation of their own. Initiative units can only React to this if they are targeted directly and if they have any movement or fire left.

The next turn you roll to see who gets initiative and start over.

That fits my reading of it, but what I think I saw in the game was that the sides actually changed who acted and who reacted in what I think was a second half of the turn, if that makes sense. I'll play it as I understand it and hope to get into a game with one of the experienced players at the Drums event in May. Also hope to find other Dayton area players who just haven't joined the forum or listed themselves in the player finder list. I didnt raise any questions at the time because I've been a GM who was hounded by rules lawyers during a game or two, and I'd rather not be like that to others, especially after only a first read through of everything.

Well, my suspicion is that what you describe as the "second half" is actually the non-initiative activation phase.

Otherwise those guys are doing something wrong, I think.

Entirely likely I missed something in my first game. I'm hoping to run that Knife Fight scenario here on the 17th for a few of my local gaming friends.

If a non-initiative side unit moves, though, can an initiative unit that has acted react?

A unit wich has already acted has forfeited any reactions. Meaning that initiative units wanting to react would have to be on overwatch, or not having acted.

If fired upon, they would still be allowed to defend themselves though.

(this is my understanding of the rules at least)
