So, I was bitten a while ago by this 6mm bug, and as I had a few micro tanks lying around I am in the process of repainting, and I'm thinking of getting some infantry as well. I like the FoF rules and am sure they will work great in this setting too, only question is, how? I think have seen some ww2 adaption somewhere, and rumour says there are something in the AAG-pipeline too? You gents who are into 6mm, in every setting, how do you do smaller games with a some tanks, inf and a few other vehicles? I'm just getting into this idéa and would like some input.

Jonathan The same way we do Modern we base the Army list on an Infantry Platoon, Then add support. For instance lets do a Platoon from GD Because they had all the good toys . So we want a panzer gren Plt we do the actual infantry first Hqs 3 Squads and whatever weapons teams are organic to the Platoon (5 cm Mortar or whatever) we then finish them off with the 4 SDKFZ 251s. We then have to think what support might they almost always expect from company level ? To do that we Read ,research and ask questions. What your looking for is weapons teams like a tripod MG42 or Pz shrek team etc ... also any FO/FAC guys . Then finally what could you reasonably expect to get from your BN ? Engineer support? SDKFZ 251/7 and and Eng squad ? Scout and sniper support? Perhaps echeloned above BN like a Stug or marder section. Or perhaps a lone tiger your guarding till a recovery vehicle arrives . What you want to do is keep it reasonable and not get all Crazy unless you have historical documentation that shows that during this battle the 2 Plt Pz Grn BN 2 GD reg had 20 Tiger 1 attached etc . You might want to think about your terrain boards as well 2x2 is usually more then enough room to get some maneuver in . You can go larger as you obtain larger forces and more players per side.

I tend to build forces around scenarios. The Skirmish Campaign scenarios are great for this, as is Too Fat Lardies Anzio scenario book. These allow you to go from the small actions to some pretty large ones for a company and support. To adjust from their 25mm scale maps, I take the given 1-foot squares and convert to 12CM so a 3 by 4 foot map will be 36x48 CM. I want to finish units for later, but when I'm anxious to get a battle on the table, I order what I need for the largest scenarios and organize from there. I think my scenario collecting is a hold-over from my Advanced Squad Leader days.

What he is talking about is using other game scenario books as a basis for developeing your own . Games like Rapid fire , I aint been shot yet mum and others have many scenario suplement books out covering the various battles and theaters if WW2 that could be adapted with a little tweaking to FOF play. Many also provide TO&Es or army lists that could be used as well......Mikey

Ok, thanks. I have a Flames of War book or two, perhaps those could be used as a reference to a force build too, if not going crazy with supports.

I hadn't seen very many FoW scenarios outside of the Vietnam ones, but they might be useable. The Skirmish Campaign books are generic enough with notes for use in many sets of rules, while the TFL Anzio book is a little more specific but still generic enough that I play the scenarios with a different set of rules with little change. A Skirmish Campaign book for Omaha Beach might have a scenario with a couple of platoons broken down into small elements that would be perfect for FoF games, along with spotter or sniper teams, and there is usually a random item that makes each play different, so you might add a tank or another fire team, an FO with arty support or a better leader, all from a D20 roll before the game. The 4 Normandy related books are great, and I'm seriously thinking of getting the Vietnam campaign book and the Vietnam FoF module. I could see the folks at Skirmish Campaigns do some modern stuff in the future that would include modification for FoF. While I was searching for FoF, I went through several other sets of modern rules, and the only reason I still have them are the scenarios they came with. There is a great scenario based on the Russian movie, the 9th Company, and I'm really itching to play that out once I get my Russians and my Mujahadine troops done.
