Hi all! I think I have a pretty good grasp of the rules now, but there's on edge case I'd like to check out.

Initiative Unit A (IUA) is not in LOS of Non-Iniitiative Unit B (NIUB). IUA decides to risk a move across open ground to some cover to then fire at NIUB. Perhaps he wants to suppress NIUB before another more vulnerable unit appears. At the point of declaration of the move, NIUB cannot declare it's reaction. So, IUA moves off. All good!

At the point that the IUA comes into LOS, NIUB can declare a reaction. That can be to shoot or move. So, he decides to shoot. This is not a reaction to the subsequent round of fire that IUA intends to lay down at NIUB, but to the move. So, they dice off.

1. NIUB wins and fires. IUA has the option of returning fire and then completing the move and then firing as planned. NIUB can then return that round of fire and the action/reaction chain is done.
2. IUA wins and completes it's action which is to move into cover and fire. NIUB returns the fire in that round. Does that count as their reaction? Or do they then get to complete their reaction which is to initiate another round of fire?

If I understand it right, they got that reaction shot with full dice, the shot after completing the move at 1 less, and should be able to react again with another down 1 on dice. He can continue to react until he runs out of dice.

[Standing by now to find out if I really do understand it correctly. ]

Let me clarify the situation:

1. IUA moves into LOS.
2. NIUB announces reaction fire.
3. IUA wins the reaction test.
4. IUA completes its move and fires at NIUB.
5. NIUB returns fire.

Is that the reaction chain over? Or:

6. NIUB now performs it's declared action and fires at IUA.

In this case, do you dice off again to see who shoots first?

The non initiative unit may react with movement or fire once per turn period. so if they declared reaction by fire as the IU came into LOS/LOF and that round of fire is resolved thats it . if the IA completed its stated action and fired again the NIU has to sit there and take it ...

That's irregulars only, though, right? Regulars can react with fire more than once? But I think that's how I'd play it. Ending the reaction chain with one round of fire seems to make more sense than having two. The NIU simply wasn't fast enough to react in time.

A unit may only react by moving once per turn and may continue to react with fire as long as they successfully pass any reaction test they need to make. If a regular NIU fails a reaction test they may no longer react for the remainder of the turn, although they may still return fire if fired upon.
