Ok folks. I'm just starting my Soviet army for Cold War Gone Hot. But I have NO idea what color to paint my uniforms. Do I just stick with the same stuff I've used for my WW2 15mm Russians (Vallejo Russian Uniform Green  ) ? Or is there some better colors to represent the units that were in East Germany? AND!!! Is there any particular Osprey that would be a good reference for what I'm trying to do? Thanks fellas!

The smocks/jumpsuits are fairly straight forward (VJ 924 Russian Uniform or even darker with iraqi sand or desert yellow patches)...and if my eyes are seeing correctly, the 'standard' MR uniform almost looks the same color as the uniform from WW2 days...but in order to help you out better, I have to ask:
Do you have your figs yet? Specifically, what type of uniform are you anticipating on having to paint up?

Stan Awesome! Thanks Stan!  Yep, I've got 80's Russians with standard uniforms and webgear. I've got some leftover VJ924 from my 15mm WW2 Soviets, so I'm set! Thanks again for your help.

If I may add a question here, I'm working on both Soviets (80s) and Egyptians (73 War) and from the color plates I can find, it looks like the Egyptian standard uniform was pretty much the Soviet uniform for that period. I'm working in 1/285th so some details are unimportant, but it looks like the figures could be made to work for both. What do others think?

You're very welcome! I did some additional googling and found a couple of pics and blog links for you (as well, if you have the CWGH book there are some great Osprey drawings in there)... The smocks and camo uniforms can be painted as I've mentioned (I used the paint scheme on a future war sov force...I like how it turned out...I just have to finish basing the figs then I'll get some pics up)...but the uniform in the second pic looks very similar to the WW2 colors...I have the battlefront (FoW) paint guides if you need, just let me know. Regardless, just a little bit more to help the painting along.
