I have just been playing one of the Operation Snakepit scenarios and a couple of questions about using vehicles came up.

1. Can a vehicle neutralize a hot spot ( in other words - can only dismounted infantry neutralize a hot-spot ) ?

2. Does a vehicle ( IFV - not soft vehicle ) lose 1D firepower when doing a rapid move ? Does this deduction come from both the main and secondary weapons (2D) or just 1D off the total of both weapons ?

Only Infantry can nuetralise a hotspot.
The vehicle would suffer a -1 to its reaction rolls for rapid move.
Vehicles only suffer a FP loss with each action/reaction after the first it would come from what ever weapon was being deployed at the time.
IE the main gun and one secondary may be fired per action/reaction if pooled against infantry then subtract from the total if firing at a AFV AT values may not be pooled so subtract from the AT total. Pg 78 main rules,Mechanized combat.....Mikey

Thanks for the quick reply.

Neutralising hot spots with infantry does make sense. Is that quoted in the Force on Force rulebook ?

Hot spots are covered on pg 22 main FOF rule book .
They do not actualy say that only infantry may nuetralize hot spots. ( I just checked )the only requirement mentioned is that it be a regular unit. In my games I only allow Infantry to nuetralize hot spots .
There are also modifications to hot spots in other books and suplements like the OEF book in which Hot spots can not be nuetralized or the Ambush Valley Book in whitch they are used as tunnels but can be neutralized by tunnel rats etc .

What if the hot spot is an occupied building which has been blasted to rubble?
Is the rule of thumb a figure must occupy the hot spot uncontested to have it count?

The reason I restrict hot spot neutralization to infantry is that there is no restriction to where they can be placed.
So tanks and AFVs cant climb up a multi story building and rarely move into rubbled buildings as they could be bogged or even rendered useless if there is a basement and the floor collapses.
Its much easier to rubble the building by fire and then let your infantry take out the hotspot.

I was just checking I hadn't missed something obvious in the rulebook. I did read the sections on Hot-spots and Vehicles several times, but couldn't see anything. It is common sense to me that you need infantry "...on the ground..." to destroy a hot-spot. Problem answered and solved.

I appreciate all your input. Ho-hum - off to re-fight the game - should be more enjoyable for the Taliban player this time around.
