I'm just finishing my British army platoon and I have a ton of Taliban on its way, but I also want to do a Canadian platoon but not sure what's the best models for them or if they have been done in 20mm

Cheers

Rick

For the most part they have not been done in 20mm. But a good Proxy would be Elhiem US Army fire teams for Iraq. The weapons are just about right and the equipment is fairly close.
As for vehicles S&S may be worthwhile exploring for the Lav 3 they used as well as the Leo 2 A5.

I've heard talk that ISAF Canadians are coming down the pipe from Elhiem...I personally can't wait!

I've been looking into this off and on for the past few months...I have to agree with Mikey, not only does Elhiem have great models, but they would work very well for the Op Apollo 2002 PPCLI battle group...the c7's looked very close to the m16a2...not many rail sights at that time...and the gear, vests, and helmets are a close match to the US Army Iraq2003 packs.

Can't wait to see if ISAF Canucks come down the road.

Mikey, any particular vehicles you're looking into? Need any help.

Cheers,
Stan

Im really lucky I not only got a hold of the Leagions 4 hire afgan stuff (modeled after canadian fobs in the stan early on) but GHQ models will work for the LAV3 25 (Lav25 USMC) but they also make the Leo 2 A6.
C&C make the Bison and grisly GHQ for the G Wagon, Niyala . Don't know what they picked for thier TAPV
I saw they were looking at a AFV that looked like both a CG commando and the M117...they use a Merc 8x8 for a cargo truck so my scale is pretty good but 20mm could use a lot of those I mentioned....

A C7A1 would be the right rifle for 2002, but you'd have to put the Elcan C79 optical sight on. For the newer A2, it's a full length rifle, but with the telescoping stock (very similar to the US), a C8 is an M4.
Also, for 2002 PPCLI, you have to add scrim to the helmets ;)

As for vehicles, I have NEVER seen a photo of or heard about a Canadian LAV-3 with slat, there's an add-on armour package, but that's belly armour and add on plates. Doesn't mean it ain't out there though...

Depending on what time in the war, you could use a few different Leopards, C2, C2 Mexas, 2A5.
The G-Wagens are not used outside of KAF anymore from what I hear from guys coming home, if at all.
We also have our version of a Buffalo, but in 20mm or smaller, you won't notice the difference. The A2 version has bar armour
The stryker looking vehicle is the LAV3 RWS, the 25mm cannon and turret have been replaced with a CROWS like RWS system

for the best references possible, check Combat Camera - its the DND photo archive. Fantastic!
