It's that time again. Every year I run a wargame on the last day of school as part of my end of the year class party. This year is no exception!

Last year we did a battle set during the 2003 Iraq war. This year with it being the 70th anniversary of the beginning of The Pacific War I've decided to run a game set in the Philippines in January of 1942. This year I was able to slip in the story of PFC Narcisico Ortilano during our unit on heros. I told them the basic story of his stand at the Abucay Line and we watched a snippet from the episode of "Shootout" which covered his action.

Now we are going to put it all together as a Force on Force scenario. In the past I've only run one large game. This year I'm going to do this as three games. It's going to be the same scenario but it willbe set-up as three games so that more students can participate. I'm planning to set things up so that each game can support up to six students so that everyone can truely get in on the action.

To support the game I'm going to have the kids build terrain (mainly sugar cane fields), and each student will get to paint a 15mm Japanese figure to round out my collection so that the Japanese force will have about 30 figures to play with... and yes, they will paint and flock their soldier and they will get to keep it too (IF they show up for the last day of school).

The game has been a blast and I know that this bunch will really enjoy it. For nearly all of them it will be their first gaming experience... except for one kid that is! This year is extra special because I've had the unique pleasure of having my oldest boy in my homeroom! Anyway the game will be on Friday, June 8 and this time I'll have a camera ready to go.

Finally, I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has a couple of well used brushes that they would be willing to part with. I want to group the kids into teams of six to paint the figures and I'm a few brushes short. I'm looking for well used but functional brushes that they can use. That way if they get messed up then it's not a big deal. I mean brushes that are just a few steps away from becoming dry brushes.

Any way more details later.

Scott

When do you need the brushes by? We probably have some around, but we wouldn't be able to mail anything until next week.

Aren't there Child Labor Laws where you live!?!

Sounds like a great project! I wish that my kids' schools did something like this. Hmm...maybe I should ask the teachers. 8)

Where are you located? If you're in the USA, I'll try to send brushes.

Cheers,

- Jim
