I have looked around and have not seen this posted. For those playing in 6mm, what have you done for the scale? I mean did you halve the distances or use what was printed in the rulebooks?
Thanks

Steve you can do either really but I prefer to use centimeters with my small travel boards and have thought of using inches on larger ones tho. I do not think there is any thing you cant do in 6mm. There is more stuff availible in this scale then any other I know , WW1,WW2,Korea ,Aden,Sumatra ,Malay,Falklands,Nam,AIW,Bushwars,DW1,OIF/OEF, TW and Zombies...Buildings for every era and price and material . there are Not enough civies figures and a very few other things . it just unlimited in what you can do . There are quite a few 6mm AAG gamers on this forum myself included let us know if we can help....Mikey

So are you saying that you use centimeters instead of inches? So if movement calls for 6 inches you just use 6 centimeters?

Yes on small travel boards like 1.5 x 1.5 If i was playing on say a 8x6 board you could use either and have a good game. Using inches on large boards gives depth and Little more realisim...My biggest Board is about 2 ft long by about a foot...I have a city street modual and a govt complex modual (US embasy Saigon 68) and Im building a Airport modual. I also sometimes travel with a rolled terain Mat that I bought from "that terrain Guy" about seven years ago I pack about 10 hootches and some Palm trees ground cover and a river mat that goes on top when I want to rural Nam ...I use centimeters on the moduals and inches on the 4x4 Mat.

Just recently got into 6mm to go for bigger battles.
Been using half distances, i.e. infantry movement is 3". I play with mixed armour and infantry on a 5 foot sqaure table so the need for transport becomes apparent, but the weapon ranges can seem odd. For a main gun on an MBT or a HMG to shoot accross the table (450 sq metres) seems okay but for pistols and SMG's it doesn't feel right. I've experimented with decreasing die size for increased ranges (similar to SMG's beyond optimal).
For civilains, try model railroad Z scale figures - the Chinese ones are dirt cheap and can come pre-painted.
The last game we played, we had the equivalent of a company plus on each side. The vehicle rules worked very smoothly. We made two modifications to speed things up: 1. activations (and reactions) were done by platoon, though you still fired as and at individual vehicles or fire teams 2. after the first aid check at the beginning of a turn, units are either considered dead or okay, based on the number of casualties and a die roll. For instance, if one guy is killed in a 6 man fire team, roll a d6 - on 1, rermove the unit, on a 2-6 it is okay. With the number of units, this all averages out and you don't have to track casualties on a dozen plus bases.
The bottleneck now is that I need more dice.
For what it is worth. Mike

Mikey I use inches because of the folowing the listed MER (realworld was based on Iron sights) everyone gets a weapon sight that extends the MER to 450 m the prob is what the round does when it hits and to some extent what it does on the way...for instance the round begins to tumble at around 250/300m and does a lot of damge but beyond 300m its a toss . (This is based on my real world experience not a published fact) I have not had problems hitting just knocking them down. The older M16 with its longer and heavier barrel does not have this issue as far as i know . I went with a AK47 which will knock them down but is not as acurate as the M4 at 450m and beyond. I think thats why they introduced the DMR to provide coverage at the intermediate ranges to 600m. So I really like your Idea of reducing the die that the team fires beyond OR. Im going to give the Platoon reactions and casualty methods a try

Hi,
I am getting started in doing FOF in 6mm and I have some questions. Mikey when you say you use inches do you mean that you use the rules a written? What size bases do you use or do you base them individually? I was thinking of just using centimeters and using the rules as is. Also who sells 6mm zombies?
Thanks

On really big boards you can use inches . (big boards to me are 8x6, and yes use the rules as written). on smaller boards I use centimeters ( I rarely use inches). I base my troops individually on very small (smaller then a dime) metal washers then mount them on magnetized bases the size of a flames of war small base, so i can remove casualties . sometimes i just use them individually. Irregular miniatures sells 6mm zombies.....let me know if I can help in any way .....Mikey

Mikey,
Thanks for the quick reply. I have a lot of small washers that I was going to mount individual Leaders / Big Men on for a different game. Now I just need to get some magnatized bases and get started.

I play FoF in 1/285 in a more abstract way (using centimeters instead of inches btw. with 1in = 1cm). I usually mount three figures on a 20*20 mm base and that represents a fireteam/Taliban cell/whatever. (For weapon teams I use smaller bases and just two figures each). The bases are numbered and the force's organization (and current status) is listed on a kind of roster sheet. Here is an example:
#1 Fireteam Alpha One Casualties: 1 Leader w/M16 LW Gunner w/M203 (Lt.AP:1) Gunner w/M249 (Lt. AP:1) Assistant Gunner w/M16 KIA
That means: the base with the number 1 represents Fireteam Alpha One. Its leader has suffered a light wound (LW) and the poor Assistant Gunner is dead. Furthermore, the unit has suffered one casualty this turn, thus it must make a First Aid Check at the beginning of the next turn.
This method requires some bookkeeping, of course. But unless you play very large scenarios that's no big deal in my experience.
