Hi guys - we need some urgent advice about what paint colours to use to paint my US Army figures for 'Day of The Rangers'.

My wife [otherwise known as master painter!!] uses Vallejo & GW paints so she'd appreciate advice about which ones to use.

Any links to appropriate pictures will also be welcome.

ok.....after 2 months with no help, gotta ask what we're doing wrong.

I have looked through the threads in this part of the forum but cannot find a single one with advice or help about painting US choc chip cam.

I found excellent pics of US troops in Somalia wearing it but that's it.

That then threw up another question. Are the guys that are used in the DoTR scenarios supposed to be Infantry or Rangers? Some sceanrios specify Rangers others don't, which led me to believe they were 10th MI......

Were the uniforms they wore the same or not? I have tried finding info on the internet but frustratingly cannot find the information we need.

HELP! Please!! Otherwise my figures are never goign to get painted.....

All using Vallejo paints:

US Tri colour:

Iraqi Sand
330 High Litght Russian Tanker for the green areas (or Russian Uniform)
Beige Brown for the brown squiggles

US Choc Chip:

Iraqi Sand mix with Pale Sand
then paint swathes of just Iraqi Sand
Then paint blobs of brown sand
in the middle of brown sand paint Beige Brown
Chips: US OD, then edged with Pale Sand

You're welcome, If your wife uses GW's (old) paint range I think Debeb Stone would work perfectly for the undercoat and base coat.

Not painting advice, but an answer to your other questions. I don't DoTR yet, but I'd guess that like most scenarios, you could swap in anybody with a little tweaking. I think they Ranger specific ones are ones that they did/would have done back then. And yes, the uniforms are the same.

Rangers wore three colour DCUs with chocolate chip helmet covers and mainly Woodland RBA vests as detailed in the Miniatures and Uniform Guide in the book. Marines and 10th Mountain still wore chocolate chip in the main. Don't know what you mean by scenarios not specifying Marines, Rangers, 10th Mtn or other CF- each scenario details which unit was involved in the scenario?

As a suggestion I got the US flag patch decal from B Company.
I believed that the rangers had them on the right shoulder while the deltas had them on their upper chest.
They all wore DCU camo



with DBU "chocolate chip" helmet.
