For Roger
Aussie E Timor list
Use Infantry List in FOF main rules for RAR
Add 4 M113A2A or M113 A3A The A3A has 6 road wheels and New (THEN) MG Turret while the A2 was retrofitted with the new turret so that 1999 all had it.
I have found Photos that indicate the AUS did deploy the Leo 1A4 to timor Briefly. so you have an option for adding 2 to your list.
The M113 ARV may be made by either H&R or scotia but not By C&C or GHQ. Im going to see If I can kitbash Mine.
The real problems are in order INF and soft transport.
Inf : the only real candidate is GHQs modern chinese which have a bullpup weapon that can pass for a F88.
the heavy weapons can use modern US INF heavy weapons pack from GHQ
Soft transport GHQ does make a Modern (Boxy) Unimog.
Oddly enough you can also use a AAVP7A1 with EAK to hual your Infantry as well .
I will update as I gather more info but this should get you started in whatever scale your using..Now the hard part will be scenarios as I have little more then the code names of a few ops still trying to find more info for us.

Thanks again Mikey.
Much appreciated.
If I can find any info for the scenarios I'll be sure to let you know.

regards
Roger

On a different scale (20mm) Modern Irish Fireteam from Elhiem could easily pass for Kiwis and Auzzies.

Wombats. Not to be shot at or exported overseas. Vietnam is the only time they've ever had their passports stamped.

The tanks never saw action, although a squadron was loaded in preparation for deployment to East Timor in 1999 but then unloaded because in the words of one senior armoured corps officer: "It might have sent the wrong message to the Indonesians."

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/nationa ... 1117494039

Or a somewhat less august source, if you prefer:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1st_Armour ... (Australia)

Individual members of the regiment have served OS, some have served on rotation with British and US units in the ME but to the best of my knowledge no combat element of the regiment has deployed since Vietnam. Ironically, there were reservists who served as part of reserve companies attached to regular infantry battalions. I imagine that there will be a similar article about the Abrams in another thirty years.

Incidentally Indonesia has been trying to buy up Leopard 2s and Apaches from the Netherlands.

And we certainly have never operated AAVs??? Or do you mean the Indo Marines?

The only armour in ET was 113 buckets and an ASLAV troop (PC and 25).

Can't say there's a lot of historical scenarios for INTERFET era- a few small infantry contacts. Hypotheticals may be interesting however.

Also remember that the RAAF flew air cover CAP for the Navy whilst underway so there's an option there for CAS from Hornets.

Mikey can you post a link please? I have never even heard this hinted at beyond some discussion around a future requirement for the expansion of our amphibious capability.

If we had/have some (which I'm afraid I'm very doubtful of as it must be the best kept secret in the ADF), they certainly weren't deployed during INTERFET.

No I can not Leigh ....Because you and others are correct what I found was in fact USMC AAVs coming in over the beach. I mistakenly thought the Aus used it . It was in a Aus DEF site and went into great depth of first 2 and then 4 RAR being designated as the AUS amphibious units for the new LHDs they are having built. I do apologise and that means I'm prob mistaken about the Leo1a1s in ET too but I will keep checking..Mikey

Ah no worries.

The tanks also weren't there for sure. One of my best mates was the troop commander of the 2CAV ASLAVs who landed from Tobruk to support SF, 4 and 3RAR and his and the later 113s (from 5/7 I think) were it as far as armoured support (and I think two very early Bushmaster trial vehicles).

It is funny how East Timor is referred to as a small scale operation. For Australia at the time it was huge, we had some 5000 troops involved at 1 point including 3 infantry battalions and the kiwis had one on the ground as well. We were only able to sustain it for a few months, but again for the US it would be considered small. :)

I spent more than 3 months of my tour in Timor with the Kiwi Battalion, given their situation they had an excellent setup while the nearby Austrlian base still had "drums" for toilets the Kiwis had fully dug in septic tanks and porcelain toilets!

Oh I think the Australian Army has more kiwis than the Kiwi Army these days. ;)
