The Back ground to the conflict in Al Ashram has been placed at the end of this AAR if you are interested to Know why everyone is fighting each other start there, if not read on.

After a period of developing tension within Al Ashram and increasing success on behalf of the Bayt al-Mal insurgency which now controls significant parts of the Northern Jebel Al Aswad region The Khalif has requested assistance from the US forces stationed in Al Ashram to assist in the containment and suppression of the Bayt Mal Insurgnts

The Bayt al Mal team look a bit like this

and they mixed in with the Al-Annaba massive

1/21 Stryker Bn which has been held by the US in Al Ashram assisting in the Training and Operational Mentoring of The Khalifs Armed Forces were committed as part of a significant surge operation into the Northern City of Al-Annaba,

1/21 looked like this

the Battalions mission was to provide support to the KAF in the clearance of Bayt al-Mal insurgents from the cities Masbagha sector.

For this we were going to play AA Scenario 4 Sweep and Clear with a few monor changes to the Orbat for the US force which became 1 Section of two squads and the Pl Comd, Radio OP and MG team of Gunner and Assistant. Making up for the missing USMC squad

The Bayt al Mal were represented as laid down in the Scenario, a large and angry horde - Nobody told them the US were policing the planet.

In the event of Asset Cards providing extra assistance 1/21's assets were mapped as follows:
M1 and IFV became AGS and ATGW variant strykers respectively
APCs were Strykers
Gun trucks were hummers

All set for an entertaining mornings gamming

1/21 qued up on the start line ready to sweep the Masbagha sector

Local civilians blisfully unaware of impending mayhem and their impact on US lines of fire

Having made the smart move and got some heavy weapons into over watch it all started to unravel for the US player, with an Insurgency level of 5 and some very interesting dice rolling, significant numbers of insurgents rapidly built up on top of the US forces as they moved off the start line.

Moments later the US team take a casualty, whilst the insurgent team repeated their good fortune of the first couple of rounds and generated yet another large group which promptly spilled out onto the main street threatening the rear of the US teams trying to manouver.

The US forces under fairly significant presure and carrying a csualty were forced to consilidate a position on the start line and a wait casevac and reinforcement. Bayt al Mal currently retain control of the Masbagha sector of Al-Annaba. An enjoyable little game which thanks to some great dice rolls by the insurgents they managed to overface the american force in this sector who had little choice but to dig in and await help.

and compact alley the whole lot stashed away for transport

Back Ground to Al Ashram should you be interested

The Gulf state of Al Ashram is a small onion rich nation located in the Gulf, originally one of the trucial states they are now part of the United Arab Kaliphates. Whilst supported by the west they have land boundaries with a number of other Arab states who covert both their wealth and relationship with the western world.

They have enjoyed a long standing relationship with the UK, who have provided both arms and training to the Kaliphs armed forces for the last 20 years. The Kaliph himself was trained at Sanderhurst, he has however recently been wooed by the fine dineing available in Paris and seems to have forgotten everything his instructors ever taught him about Waterloo. Consequently the French, who have offered to modernise the KAF for very reasonable cost, are leading a conserted effort to capture the considerable contracts that will be let over the next 5 years to restructure the KAF to face the challenges of the 21st centuary. In addition they intend to exploit their growing influence to gain a degree of control over the lucrative Al Ashram onion trade.

The Kaliph has also been keen to gain support from the United States in order to provide Al Ashram with a degree of protection from both local insurgents and Al Ashram's larger neighbours. Currently he is in discussions with the US over the leasing of a new base and anticipates US participation in a series of military exrcises over the next year. His hope is that this will neutralise a number of threats to this small attractive state and its onions.

The Kaliphs Armed Forces (KAF) also known locally as the Lions of Al Ashram are all ready engaged in dealing with a Muslim fundermentalist Insurgency led by Mullaha Shaiba ibn Hashim and supported by their larger neighbor Sumra who like every one else in this sad tale have their eyes firmly fixed on Al Ashrams Onions. The insurgemts or Bayt al-Mal already exert considerable control over the mountainous Sumraian border region and are proving difficult to deal with given the proximety of safe havens and training camps just beyond the Al Ashram border. The one redeming feature of Bayt al-Mal is they have no interest what so ever in the onions ........ or so they say.
