Haven't been posting here much, so I thought I'd remedy it by showing you my newest project. I was talking to a couple of guys, about the lack of (free) papercraft buildings. Now I know that there are some really good ones out there, but I figured you can never have too many, right?

So here's the first attempt, just a simple middle eastern building. The printing place screwed up the scale a bit, but since it's more of a test anyway, I didn't care too much. I've still got a lot of detailing and work to do, but I wanted to see what it looked like on a table before I continued, so here it is, coupled with a pair of unfinished soldiers;

Oh, and yes, I do need to cut out the windows, missed that on the first attempt :P And please ignore the shoddy roof, it looks a bit better now that I waited for the glue to stick.

Details are still a bit off, the roof texture isn't done yet, and I might need to work a bit on getting it to go together more easily. It's also printed on the wrong kind of paper, the printer couldn't print on cardstock (that should have been a clear sign to get out of there).

But I'd love to hear some feedback on it, the whole thing is available here (btw, a hefty 33mb .tif, 300dpi) and I plan to update that as I go along. [/url]

I have absolutely no previous experience working with papercraft, so any tips you might have would be very welcome. By the way, are there any other kinds of buildings people would like to see?

WOW!! :shock:

First off, your base texture looks almost exactly like my painted buildings!

I'm really impressed by this! Keep up the good work!

Nice building! Do you think it would work to have a curtain or some other sort of window covering printed in the paper instead of cutting out the windows?

I really like this, I've been looking at the 'Desert Village' buildings set: http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=7009
but that set is not particularly modern-looking (better for Colonials or Pulp gaming than for moderns). I do like the look of yours.

You can stiffen the sides up with coffee stir sticks glued inside or folded cardstock/paper (cut a long piece, score lengthwise in three places, then fold so you have a "Witches hat" cross-section.
Here is a bad ascii-art example of the cross-section: -^-
You glue the flat sides to the wall and it stiffens the building up without adding much weight. You could also glue them under the roof for support.

Putting curtains or shutters or maybe grill/bars in the windows would work.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm currently working a lot at my regular work, so work on the textures/cutouts are slow, but hopefully I'll be getting some time in the next couple of weeks.

@serge: Yes, these are my own textures, except for the coca-cola sign, that was taken straight off google :)

@rhnelson: Curtains could easily replace the holes in the windows, allthough I thought it might be nice to have a possibility to have the soldiers take cover in them / shoot from them :) I could even make a couple of different versions, to differentiate.
