I have not got a copy of the TW rules yet, pre-order awaiting release. But I've been reading FoF and like what there was in that.

I run a games club at a school, and all the kids have collections of GW models. Trying to move them to any other system proves to be very problamatic. It represents a big envestment to shift into a new scale/period (although probably only the cost of a single GW vehicle). And of course GW does provide superb support for the hobby in terms of a place to game, and painting instruction... which is good for kids.

So what I'd like is a way of getting them to play different games using the models they already own to start with. So to cut a long story short:

Has anyone started work on stats for Wh40K armies? If so are they willing to share here/collaborate?

Greetings,

I did and have started to convert GW armies to TW but it got shelved when my Son lost interest in the idea and I had no one else left to work along with. I have that many projects -both with a paint brush and rules conversions, on the go And so little free time to do them with nothing appears to ever get finished.

I may now pick up on the conversion BUT with the new TW due in a matter of weeks I may wait to see what has changed before using valuable time on a defunct idea.

Jim

With TW the Adeptus Astartes finally will be as bad-ass as their fluff makes you think they should be. Haven't done any conversions at all yet, but I bet with the Space Marines (as I think they are supposed to be) I'll field no more than two squads and a captain to wipe the floor with Orks. Super-human warriors here we come, finally! They won't be "overpowered" but they are mankinds elite and I think a few of them with hard armor, heavy firepower and self-healing should be a fun game if the enemy may field lots of troopers.

I just try to imagine how certain things from the 40k background may be depicted with TW rules, but I am sure together with the community we might figure out some fun conversion stats.

I can't wait to get my hands on the book and start converting my Sisters of Battle over. Should be interesting.

Happily, Imperial Guard will be EASY :) Even Storm Troopers would be D8! And have 1 or 2 dice armor. Power Armor is 3. Terminator Armor 4?

Although, how do you handle races that are better at fighting in Hand to Hand than in shooting?
i.e. Imperial Guard vs Tyranids? I have the old TW, so I think this answers it..

When you define your "alien" races, you can give them attributes and of course you can always bump their abilities. Huge claws and jaws? well, +1 die in close combat for them to begin with for exmaple. Power weapons? negate enemy armor bonus dice (just an idea, I don't quote the rules here!)

I have force on force. In that combat weapons (shot guns, SMGs) give bonus dice when assaulting. Something similar could work.

I was thinking along the lines of
WS BS 3's (ish) TQ D6 to D8
4s TQ D8 or D10
5s TQ D10

But I'm rather guessing from what other people have posted.

Is there a ~regular vs irregular divide in TW?

The final thought I had was doing force on force "insurgency" with hot spots that spawn tyranid hordes, or perhaps chaos cultists.

Yes "irregulars" are part of the rules, as is creating "alien" races.

Orks/Tyranids would be irregular/hordes I think. 'nids because they would use out of contact movement a lot. Orks because there's just so damn many of 'em, and they NEED a boss to lead them, or else they run away.

Chaos fanatics would also be irregular because of their lack of organization I'd say, and that they require a chaos champion to lead them, otherwise they become disorganized?

It's also obvious that 'da Boss would "lead" them just as leader do in FoF. Having ork mobs emerge from spawnpoints sounds funny. I will try that. Not much TQ for them and low Morale, but maybe a rule to simply ignore any morale checks until they are reduced to such a small number that they realize they are actually getting their ### kicked :D

I have GW Tyranids and will be setting up some TW stats for them in the next few weeks. I have a growing collection of DUST Tactics minis that will be thrown up gainst the Nids. I also have some Necrons that I will be creating stats for as well.

For me the Nids will be irregulars and I will be having lots of fun with the attributes for the horde of teeth and claws.

Nids would be irregular but their synapse creature would have the radio ability so that as long as its alive, either they benefit from its morale, or even better, they count as having a leader in each "leaderless" unit?

Guard would have to have vox casters to use the radio ability but would also have plenty of off board basalisk arty they could call in. As well as Valkarie airstrikes. SM would have built in vox. I guess their leaders would be d12 morale and maybe a morale ability of some kind.

It would be especially fun to do a Space Hulk type scenario with 2 Terminator fireteams vs unlimited genestealers... Hell we already have hotspots!

We haven't even started looking at Eldar yet :)

Space Hulk TW style sounds like a really fun game. There are some awesome resin cast spaceship hallways that would add to the game. I am sure you could make something instead.

I will look at Necrons and post some thoughts.

I'm actually going to pick up some Orks and just run the starter pdf scenario using them as the Talliban units. They would certainly be good running the Contracting Trouble scenario.
I can get cheap plastic Black Reach ones for $15 on ebay..

Orks would certainly have the caveman casevac although I know that's not used everywhere.
Oooh, Necrons I have no idea what to do with them.

Just assume no shields, no power armor, and weapons are equiv tech level and regular FoF works nicely I think.

I assume Necrons wouldn't need a model nearby to be allowed to check on the first aid table. I would say they always may do so and might require a special table (given they are mechanical beings), on which they have a bigger chance to return to the fight as human beings for example. Tomb spiders might count as "medic" for the purpose of giving them bonus on such a table if they are around. Just some random thoughts...
