Hi
We played a game today with artillery for the first time and a couple of questions came up.
If a non initiative unit reacted to a tank firing on another unit by calling for fire support with artillery when do you activate the artillery unit?
Also if the same example above was done in the end phase instead is this classed as an action or still a reaction.
How we did the artillery was to call for the artillery as a reaction and then fire the artillery unit in the end phase or can you call for the artillery in the end phase and then activate the artillery next also in the end phase.
All of the above is relating to non initiative units as my understanding of artillery units with initiative units is that they are just classed as actions as normal.

I don't let N-I units call for arty as a reaction. The rules state that reactions be either fire or movement, and that's it.

I do let them do it in the end phase, as long as they do nothing else that turn. It counts as their activation for that turn.

Hi
That was a quick reply Thank's.
But if a non initiative unit can only fire or move as a reaction then why is there a table at the bottom of page 65 in the main rule book with the title 'Reactions' and a list under this one to request artillery among other reactions?

Oh. My bad.

I may have confused your question with reacting to initiatve units doing air and arty requets. You can't do that.

N-I units certainly may request arty and air. If the call is successful, then the air or arty shows up immediately (unless the scenario dictates otherwise).

Sorry about the (my) confusion.
