Other than carving it out of a block of wood... which will be time consuming and bloody. Anybody making there own helicopters at 1/56?

I'd rather use pink foam - but there are plenty of choppers available in 1/48, which should be close enough for 28mm.

Sadly I am that guy, i just bought an alouette III 1/50 model so I could get an idea of how I could tackle the issue.

i made a 1/100 Huey from clay and moulded it up with resin. have a look on my youtube page here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1j6QsCQpj0
and finnished here

currently working on a blackhawk (that's turning out much better than the huey) but with a different approach. google up a line drawing of your chosen chopper and cut the main side view shape in plasticard. then cut the cross sections at the main changes in shape (eg where the body meets the tail is one place) then once you have all the cross sections glued in place, fill in the gaps with putty or green stuff. i use car filler/bog which can be sanded and scribed for the details. plus you can green stuff details like door hinges or whatever and just glue them on...

Wow! How'd you score one of those!?! I've been trolling eBay for months without success! :(

Honestly, if you're such a detailfreak that you won't consider 1/48 or 1/60th helicopters for 28mm figs, why would you be happy with a helicopter model you've sculpted yourself? Wouldn't it inevitably be far less accurate or detailed than a proper model?

i game in 20mm so i just use 1/72 models - cheap, easily found. i don't do any interior details as it's too fiddly and i'm not doing diorama quality work. a tip i do have is to use small magnets for the props so they can be taken on/off easily.

good luck.
