Alright, here are some pics of my convention game held at Genghis Con at the Red Lion Hotel in Aurora, Colorado. Mission was Operation Mutay Part 1 out of the Enduring Freedom book. Had 4 people sign up for the game, which filled all my slots. I have 3 more part 1 games Saturday, and 2 Part 2 games Sunday.

The Taliban ended up winning this battle 21 victory points to 5. However, their were only roughly 10 taliban left on the table at the end of the game. The British forces failed to link up with second platoon, and suffered 2 dead (including the medic!), and 5 seriously wounded.

The British suffered heavily from Fog of War cards (two players could not stop rolling 1s!). Lots of IEDs were detonated and the Taliban received an off board Chechen sniper to started picking off the Brits. The British players did put a world of hurt on the Taliban. The best moment was when we drew the "Is that a civie" Fog of War card and plopped them right in the middle of the table. Everyone had a pretty good laugh. The British players also called in an Apache... which killed a wopping 2 models, then the RAF decided that they were done with this mission and told the paras that they were on their own.

All in all everyone seemed very happy, and 3/4 of the players signed up for my part 2 game. 2 packs of Elhiem figures were given out as prize support (Which the loved!) and everyone got Dog Tags from AAG and a nice flier. The only downside was that I did not choose a longer time slot to play the game. This is a rather large scenario and is more suited to 3 hours I think.

More pics to come tomorrow!

Day 2, Game 2 of the Convention. I changed the deployment around to see if the British would have an easier time achieving their objectives, and it looked better overall. Still Operation Mutay part 1

I am having a hard time remembering all the details of this game as it was the first of 3 today. I do remember that the British were having a hard time advancing. They got distracted by that Hot Spot and Cell that starts behind their deployment. I also added in my on Fog of War as my friend ran to the bathroom when it was his turn to activate, so moved his British Fireteam forward to engage some Taliban and had his teammate roll for him. It didn't go too well and resulted in 1 dead Brit and 1 wounded Brit. However, the British on the other side were moving forward at a very good rate and didn't have any casualties. Once again, I needed to ask for a longer time slot as this game did not get all 8 turns in. Oh, well, everyone said they loved the game!

Game 3 was rather interesting. The British players decided it was only fitting to flat out charge forward like true paratroopers. The Taliban then faced the entire British Force positioned inside the irrigation ditches. The British forces benefited greatly from the cover provided, and shot to pieces the Taliban and then charged forward again. The British Forces also benefitted from Fog of War cards, gaining a UAV and stopping out of contact movement, and getting the result that makes one of their units a TQ D10 unit for one turn. That was crucial as the team that received the benefit got attacked by a really large cell with rpgs in a building. They weathered the shots and then punished the Taliban who foolishly tried to attack them. All was going well for the Paras until one unit charged to far forward and got caught in a deadly crossfire that lasted for 2 turns. One member was killed, 1 was seriously wounded, and 2 were to be figured out later. We got further in this game than the others, but once again did not fully finish. As usual, everyone loved the game. Sadly, this game did not full up per se. I had 3 out of 4 tickets purchased, but I forced a person who had been watching the last game to push around some minis this game and have some fun. So theoretically 4/4 slots were filled.

This game was a complete victory for the British. They had 16 victory points to the Talibans 1. The Paras just flew forward, using amazing bounding over watch, couple with awesome dice rolls. The Fog of War cards were awesome in this game. The Taliban players accidently fired a mortar round into their own position, a random person of interest showed up for the coalition forces to capture or kill (they chose the to kill him). The best card however was when one of the Paratrooper fireteams rolled up to a building to shoot some Taliban, only to roll a 1 on the reaction, only to find out that there was a civilian mob in the building with the Taliban that they wanted to shoot at (Yes! We randomly rolled the civilian mob to be in that building! Was meant to be!), the Taliban's reaction fire was completely inneffective, but the British couldn't do anything for fear of hitting Civilians and angering the local population more and pissing off the Ministry of Defence! Was too awesome.

The British only suffered one seriously wounded, and managed to get everyone to the Target compound, and basically killed every single Taliban on the Table. Was an incredible victory. I kind of felt bad for the Taliban players, but they said they loved the game and had fun even though they got slaughtered.

The thing that I love is the amount of onlookers I get, and the amount of people saying "Afghanistan?" makes me feel like I actually created something fun, realistic, and pleasing to the eye.

I have 2 more games, using Operation Mutay part 2 for the scenarios tomorrow. I have quite a few repeats tomorrow so hopefully it will be awesome. I am still worried about time constraints though, but everyone still seems to have fun.

Oh, I don't think there's any doubt that you've put together something fun to play and impressive as heck to look at, buddy! That's a beautiful table with some great figures on it and from your AARs people are realy getting the most out of your games.

It looks like an OUTSTANDING success to me!!

Maybe I can play in it (or whatever you do) next year! AAG will be guests of Genghis Con in 2013, so I'll definitely be there!

Really, you guys are coming! I'll be there! (Also back to Historicon this year).

Great write-ups and play. Glad to see you get mixed results and not just one side crushing the other everytime. Good work.

We'll be there! It's been a while since I visited Denver, so I'm really looking forward to it.
