Hey people ... I really need to get some buildings made up so we can play a game on properly themed Afghan terrain. What is your preference regarding removable roofs and playable interiors? IMO its always nice to be able to use the interior of something, but not having played enough games to really know how this influences game play, I'm not sure if I should be bothered going to the effort of making everything 'openable' ... ie: seperate floors per level, removable roofs etc. It certainly has its advantages, but simply building a 'box' is much easier ... and I'm a lazy man when it comes to spending time and effort that's not really required Sooo..... Should I take the time and effort to make interior spaces usable, or sacrifice that for quick simple builds?Cheers

Go for the quick and simple. Stuff on the table, and obstacles are obstacles. Later add in a few bigger buildings for the indoor fights if you need to. Boxes with windows and doors drawn/painted on, and game on!

Somewhere I read that models on top of the buildings are considered to be inside as well as on top, using the windows and "roofwall" as equal cover.

Ruleswise it doesnt matter, so it all boils down to the question of how much you want it.
Personally i like to be able to use the inside of a building, but that is really just taste.

Many of my more recent builds are Paper Terrain with the removable shell. Since I game at 1/285th, my fire team bases are often larger than the inner shell, so at least for placing troops inside the building, this wont work for me. I have to place the base on top and designate where they are, inside or topside, for the other player. Since my earlier models were solid resin or metal castings, this isnt really a new problem for me. Removing the outer shell really only comes up for destroyed buildings in my games. If I gamed in 28mm, it might make a difference and I'd want to show the floors, but then if I had troops on multiple floors, I'd still have a little trouble playing the ones on lower floors. Only really becomes an issue if LoS can't see ground or other floors. Then you need to know how many troops are where.

Al of my buildings are "open". That said, I always ask that players simply place teh figs on the roof. This makes it easier and faster to play. Plus, this way I don't "lose" any figures in the buildings. Bottom line...it doesn't matter too much.
